Website Videos are slow/not working

looks like a 0.3 second trip

IE 9's download manager was estimating 2.25 hour to download the latest Silverlight TV (sltv58_low_...mp4) but then I got the waring "the connection was rest at the server". 

tracert looks the same today, still Ping 88 downloaded for 10 minutes then the connection was reset. same pattern, starts off with a slow feed then drops to almost nothing within a minute.

after the above I used the same browser tab to:

• watch a netflex movie without a problem
• steamed a DNR TV Show #175 (silverlight).
• wtach several utube videos, they worked as expected.
• Downloaded a 9,12 MB "Silverlight Show" in less than 2 minutes.

Now silverlight.net/learn/videos and files from the microsoft download center act the same way, reset at server.

Bing steams are at 1/2 my pipe, but they keep coming at least.

Utube and Netflex are most always at 85-90% of my max rate.  

Would all my MS traffic follow a similar route? Is a node on that route messing up the steam? It isn't my ISP as my most traffic is netflex and it works correctly???????????

help? Ideas?

Troubleshooting Insight

Silverlight TV 60 was streaming to the silverlight player, I watch the whole show with only a few pauses to buffer. I would pause the  silverlight player and tell it to download the MP3 of the show, It would start downloading at the approx. the same rate as the silverlight stream but then quickly drop to zero bytes, telling the download manager to pause and silverlight player to play gave me a usable stream again. I did the above four times with  the same result every time.

Silverlight TV 59 buffered more often but I watched it for four minutes before pausing play and starting the  medium quality wmv download. As above the download rate was similar to the stream for part of a minute before it drops to zero with  just a few bytes making it every 10 -15 seconds, and after a while the connection is reset.  Hit play and the stream resumed
at it previous rate.

What does this mean?

@Duncanma: The video quality was poor. I just downloaded Firefox 4, the results are the same.

Isn't the connection reset because of a "time Out" - no response from the server for a long time?

On a side note, firefox downloaded at my DSL limit.

Sorry to say, it still work that same as before. Acording to "win7 process monitor" cds171.sjc9.msecn.net send somewhere around 23K bytes/sec average when streaming silverlight. It will keep that up for a whole show. When I stop the SL stream, wait for the bytes to drop and ask it to download the same show  I recieve about 20k/bytes/sec from cds171.sjc9.msecn.net at the start, which drops to 500 bytes/sec within 2 minutes, and stays there untill the connection is reset.

sometimes "win7 process monitor" says cds136.sjc9.msecn.net is sending the bytes but the results are the same.

Is there some software I could run to get more insight?

I also notice that silverlight.net/learn/videos is acting about the same today. There cds152.msecn.net loadloads acted the same as above, but SL steaming was limited to 3K bytes/sec/average.

BTW netflix's 198.78.204.253 is sending the same browser 132k/bytes/sec average.

@Duncanma: I must be sleepy this morning. Concidering the post right above your question I'm not sure exactly what you want?

The URL of the page with slow video? I tried streaming and downloading from the following URL this morning, with the same results. (Using IE9 rc)

And this morning I got good results from the ms page below, 128.241.220.113 send me a SL stream at 150k for the whole 84,4 MB show. I then download the whole show from the same 128.241.220.113 with an average of about 100K bytes/second (high 141K, low 55K)

@Duncanma: Here the best troublewshooting info yet. Gather within the last hour (now 2/11/2011 12:30 PM PT) I was on silverlight.net http://www.silverlight.net/learn/videos/expression/creating-a-control-template-in-expression-blend/ where I can repeatedly get great results streaming (151K Bytes/sec) or downloading (133 -151K) of the video from this page when it is sent to me from 128.241.220.113. BUT when I get served from cds124.sjc9.msecn.net or cds121.sjc9.msecn.net the steam and downlaod are about 3K for the same file, same page.

I did this over and over with FF 4.0 and IE9 rc, it repeats exactly every time.

Don't all the videos and downloads for Ch9 come from cds X .sjc9.msecn.net?

I looked back at the videos I've saved from your site and found that I was sucessfully downloading videos up untill Jan. of this year. That makes me ask "What changed about that time?"

Today I'm recieving less then 1K Bytes/sec from cds121.sjc9.msecn.net. IE 9 rc tells me that will be about 3hrs 30 minutes to download an mp4. 1K of a possible 150K still isn't the best.

Any news? Ideas for we to try?

This is a continuing problem. Downloads are all but impossible from Channel 9, and streaming stalls. Even a tracert made it only through 19 steps, and 20-30 all timed out.

I have been trying to download a sinlge 65MB file for more than 5 hours now! It'll go up to about 25-30%, then suddenly drop back down to 5%! I can't even keep the part I already downloaded! The highest I ever made it was to 48%.

I've been trying to download the mvcConf videos since I can't even seem to watch them streaming. But, no luck. Even with a download manager.
