Website Videos are slow/not working

I'm having the same problem there. It seems to be served up by the same content servers as channel 9. My investgation leads to the content servers as the source of the sloooooooow down.

It's agonisingly slow for me at the moment too. I'm currently trying to download the Gu's keynote from mvcConf2011 at a painful average of 50k/sec. My connection is easily good for 500k/sec and will consistently download at this speed from other sites. Not channel 9 though.

@Snixtor: Seems to be video from most, if not all microsoft sites?

N2Cheval says "For the last few weeks the download speed has been about 60-90KB/s. Is anyone else having this problem?" on the following post

The ultimate bad news, Windows Update is also on cds135.sjc9.msecn.net! I was tring to download Win7 SP1 at 400 bytes per second but after about 40 minutes the dialog said the update failed! (my connection often runs 150 K bytes/sec)

I have two more bits of troubleshooting info.

1. http://www.iis.net/media/experiencesmoothstreaming feed me that bad bunny at 630 Kbps to 1.3 mbps (that bits not Bytes) from 128.241.220.111. I streamed the whole movie, all was goodness. Moments later I try to steam silverlight TV 62 and it never gets past "buffering"

2.  While at a customer cheese factory yesterday, I uses their network to download one CH9 video after another at 50 Mbps (6,250 kBps). I reget I couldn't fine out where it was being streamed from nor could I get tracert to work.

    

@Mike Greenway: I'm actually on the East Coast, in NJ. So, it's not a localized problem. Channel 9 is completely unusable.

The link you posted, I tried that one, too. Same thing. The video stutters, and ultimately starts buffering and stays stuck on 0% and never plays again.

I did finally manage to download something, but it was a 'medium' quality video. Still, it was excruciatingly slow for only a 40MB file. The worst part was that the high-quality version made it all the way to 97% complete...then suddenly stopped and started again from the beginning! D'oh!

There is so much good content on Channel 9, but it seems ultimately completely unusable for many of us. What's going on?!

@kwyjibo: Thanks for your effort. Hopefully we can get enough information together to help ms solve the problem. 

I was wondering what knid of network you are hooked to? I'm on ADSL with a 1.544 Mbps top end. Why? ...how is this logic

1. It dosen't seem to be our equipment because we are able to download silverlight videos from sites other than ms's cds???.sjc9.msecn.net at near our ISP max. rate.
2. It dosen't appear to be location related, meaning it isn't some node in the network between us and them that is only slowing down microsoft data.
3. It can't hardly be ms's content deleiverly servers are slow for everyone else there wouldn't be so many normal comments with the videos.
4. So what if there is a misatake in the content delievery servers that is falling down only under particular conditions? Like serving data to slow networks?

If you on a slower ADSL line, we might be on to something. If not I need more information.

PS when your thinking about the above please remember I know noting about networking.

@Snixtor: Hi, when you say 50K and 500K/sec are you talking bits or bytes? Sorry if that is a dumb question but I haven't been sleeping well without my silverlight tv, Ping, etc.

@Mike Greenway: I'm talking kilobytes per seconds. Sometimes it comes good though and maxes out my DSL. I've just got to sort of... pick my time. If it's in a good mood, I sieze the opportunity to get downloading.

Here's an example of one video that's hovering between 50k/sec and 100k/sec for me:

The vid itself is from the MIX archive, CL30 - Building Innovative Windows Client Software.

Any vid will do it, but it seems inconsistent. I could come back and try again in 5 hours and the vid will fly through at 500-600k/sec (my DSL limit).

@Duncanma: Unlike Snixtor my download rate is never any good.

Thank You for your effort. I'll do more testing locally and fill you in on my results, like being jailed.

I have the same problem. I can watch any other video on the web, i only have problems with Channel9 videos. Not only the speed is very slow, but when i'm downlaoding a video with any browser it will tell me that i completed the download, but after 15 second windows media player gives me an error that i can't play the video.

Shrage I am having the same problem. Streaming has to buffer so often that it's not worth doing. There are no words to express how frustrating it is to start an 800mb download (that is always stupidly slow on Channel 9), come back in a few hours, see it has "completed" only to find that it only plays the first couple of minutes of the video.

Almost every time I visit C9 now I run into similar issues. It's getting to the point where I just don't bother clicking Channel 9 links anymore because it's not worth the frustration, which is annoying because the content is so great. Shame the service is so poor.

But it happens so frequently I could just pull out any link I want. Please get this sorted out, I love C9 content but you guys are spending too many resources making it look fancy with redesigns and not enough on making it WORK!
