iirc it was in the CES keynote and was glass

I have just one suggestion for them:

- Make a pay version without the ads and the tabs. It annoys me that these tabs are there, all of them contain crap (except the messenger tab )

I am willing to pay a small fee for an instant messenger, but it should at least drop the ads and tabs (or make the configurable, so that I can remove them)

The tabs you can turn off:

Tools -> Options -> Security -> I am using a public computer; don't show tabs (or whatever that is in the English version)

The shared folder kills "My computer" for me, how do I turn it off.

I tried to install it on the latest CTP today, and it refused to even start the installer, crying about some Side-By-Side error (sorry, machine at work so can't give you details - maybe tomorrow).

Its odd because the installer is, to all extents, the same as MSN Messenger 7.5, and that installed on Vista fine.

MSN Messenger 8 becomes only the second MSI-ed app I've tried to date that hasn't installed cleanly on my Vista test rig (the other, and expectedly, was VirusScan).  It takes everything from Firefox to Office 2003 to MSN Messenger 7.x fine.

WLM is brilliant! but i do agree there should be some changes :

~#Contact List#~
-Should display e-mail addy next to name (same in convo window.)
-Advertisment Should be made smaller or even better removed.
-Where tabs are displayed leaves a big grey gap above them that   should be filled.
-Bar displaynig your nickname should be shrinkable or should have a simple toggle to make it only display name and personal message.
-Tabs should be thinner.
-Should be able to change the background colour (secondary colour) from the dull grey.
-Contact mouse rollovers sometmies take tmie to pop-up.

-Bring back the 'send file' for older versions
-Bars at top should be colapsable/shrinkable.
-Areas/activities should be greyed out if contact in question cant use them (because of wrong software/missing players.)

lol, just played around with resizing the main window of WLM and noticed that when you change the width of the window to make it very small, the Windows Live logo gets deformed

So do the buttons on the video bar thingy.

First, I love new UI, the shared folders feature is pure genius, and the call to land line is amazing. Now for improvements:

~Save logs progressively. Now this is a must as many times messenger is not closed properly
~Accept phone calls from the telephone networks
~Mutable accounts (for business / family / friends situations)
~Support for higher math characters, superscripting, and subscripting
~Direct support for bots. I’m assuming this is coming soon anyway per Bill’s demonstration at CES w/ show times + bots
~A PBX type system for calls.
~This is kind of a stretch, but ill say it anyway because I want it. The ability to use an actual landline to place a call. And use a cell phone to place a call over Bluetooth. And to use the VOIP when either of the other two aren’t available.

K ive just found out you can use the Old file transfer method

tools> options > sharing folders> then click disable sharnig folders (use dirct transfer instead)

this will make beta revert to the old way of File Transfer

    I've had this with previous versions as well as the beta I'm running (.0689)

I have a number of groups I collect my buddies in.  On expanding the group the tooltip is pretty sharpish at showing, and so the tooltip covers the top user (more if the icons aren't large)  To just expand a user group to see if there is anyone I want to talk to in there is a nuisance because I have to expand the menu, then move the mouse (to remove the tooltip from covering the user).  Doing this on more than one group at a time is tedious and unnecessary.  Could be solved either by a longer delay on the tooltip, or a number of ways, but it really grinds my gears...
