But what about Classic mode? Is there repaint?

When in Classic Mode, Vista (December CTP) disables the Desktop Window Manager completely, leaving you with the same overall desktop experience as Windows 2003 Server (or XP in Classic mode), so issues like what you're describing as "repaint" are still there.

Thanks. In fact i knew this answer but i was hoping there'll be some optimization at least.

I hoped there'd be the possibility of running the classic skin on the DWM, but that idea got shot down.

Well, I'm sure there'll be a lot of ways to apply any of your own skins on DWM. I don't worry at all.

The thing is, classic mode is Windows' native UI mode. The themes are done by having additional components hooking into the appropriate places. UXSS is just a glorified Themes service.
