I have searched MSDN a bit, but I have not found any reasonable information.

Check out the Updater Application Block. The downloader component uses BITS, and since the source code is available you should be able to pull out some information.

Just my 2 cents, but the Updater Application Block is very hard to use. However, I would still choose the UAB over using BITS directly since there's alot of added functionality. If you can wait, use ClickOnce in VS 2005.
