Vista is running fine on my test computer but I have a slight problem with VPN. As it is always the case, as soon as you setup a VPN you will end up tunneling your complete internet traffic through the remote network. In Windows XP you could change that
by deselecting the "use default gateway on remote network".
Unfortunately, I cannot click on the advanced tab in Vista where I assume this function to be hidden. I always get the error that I don't have sufficient privileges to change this. ![]()
Any ideas?

Check netstat -r to see what the default route really is.

You could add static routes as a workaround. But if you get an "insufficient access" error that sounds like a bug, which you should report (with repro)

Windows Vista has a bug were the VPN sends DOMAIN\username even when you have the box unchecked that says "send windows domain logon info"

I haven't used Vista, so I might be stearing you in the wrong direction. But on Windows XP, that setting is part of the VPN's TCP/IP protocol settings, and it's a button, not tab. Are you sure your looking in the right place in Vista ?
As for modifying the default route after you establish a VPN session, yes, you can use the "route" command for this, but you may have problems when you disconnect, unless you restore the originals before disconnecting.
For example, if I make a VPN connection to one of my RRAS boxes with the "use default route of the remote network" enabled, my default routes change like this:
BEFORE:
Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric
AFTER :
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.11 10
Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric
Notice how the metric numbers (on the end) changes. Most Remote-Network components increment existing default routes after a successful connection, and then reduce them upon a disconnection. Where the various components differ, though, is in by how much. Some increment by 1, some by 10, some 20, etc.

All is alive and well in vista, this is as an admin under UAC, not tried it as a standard user. -
It is the same as with Windows XP, just go to the TCP- Settings of your VPN- Connection and then Advanced settings and then remove the "use remote gateway" checkbox.

OS: VSTA home editition (norwegian, so please be aware of translation mistakes)
Location: France, collective with 5 persons all using internet
internet supplier: Neuf (neuf box)
VPN version: 4.8.01.0590 (for vista). tunnelling to host in Norway
Firewall: NO, only the integrated firewall in vista
PROBLEM: VPN connects, internet disconnects
SOLUTION: internet-connections --> advanced settings --> changed preferred order of connection used by internet services. I put the VPN connection on the very bottom.
VPN transport settings: "allow local LAN" (YES), "transparent tunnelling" (NO)
btw:
CANT CHANGE USE REMOTE GATEWAY as in XP (in my VISTA version at least).
8/2-08 solution nr 1 that worked, but not for long (!??)
I went to the TCP v/4 in my VPN connection. Then added a standard gateway on the "advanced" option. It worked the first time.
10/2 -08 the solution nr 2 that worked but only for one day (??!?)
Tried all "transport" settings in vpn, and strangely one of the transparent tunnelling options worked ONE time...strange.
13/2 -08 The SOLUTION that still works!
After som days of vpn break i decided to take a fresh look at the problem again. I mailed som tech-dudes that recommended everthing that i have tried so far (firewall, all transport settings, suicide etc). SO, no help.
But as an amature i try everything. I went to "networkconnections" on my vista and then to "advanced settings" were i changed the preferred order of which connections will be used by network services. I put my VPN connection at the very bottom.
I connected VPN, internet shut down for some seconds, but then came back, BOTH VPN and NETWORK is STABLE!
So It worked, hurra! But this is so strange, because my VPN connction now is connected "local" and "internet", but my internet connection says only to be connected "local" (???!!). But it still works.....though strangely........im just happy it works, dont care how:D
BTW: I think my problem is related to my network-supplier or/and to the fact that we are five people using the internet. But i am the only one using VPN, so that should not really be a problem. Network supplier issue or VISTA is my best guess because thats the two things that i have changed since VPN and internet worked together.
