Hi There,
so now you have done a few projects or solutions with VS2005, what do you think?
Here is what I think
despite the power in the .net framework 2.0, i think that this product is very Buggy, And its IDE, although beautiful and all, its unresponsive, and eats too much processor time, and slows down your pc. The VB6 IDE was waaaaaaaaay better in terms of responsive
behavior, and being able to switch between two instances of the IDE. In the VS2005 It takes too mutch time and effort by the PC CPU to repaint controls at design time, and it just slows your pc down to a point where you cant really do anything productive.
The VB Compiler is buggy, and causes many many many, crashes. I dont even think this is a RTM quailty compiler, I think its a Beta 3 compiler or something. How could the DEV team at Microsoft release a buggy compiler like that?
I dont feel as productive as I was when i started Programming in VB6, because of the low responsiveness of the VS2005.
The Only Thing that was good in the 2005 series, was the SQL Server 2005. I think its good and has few bugs if any.
So Microsoft had more time to work on VS2005, with all the delays and stuff. But they produced a low quailty Developer tool, interms of being able to work with and being able to be productive in its environment. The .net framework might be okay, but the IDE of the VS2005 Just sucks big time for me.
So I wounder if Orcas will be MORE responsive, and has more power to it. I mean a tool is as usefull as your ability as developer to work with it and to cut short your development time for a given solution. VS2005, with all the buggy VB Compiler and the Buggy IDE, you sometimes wounder if a given project your working on, will end or will just be corrupted with all the "Background" work that is consuming 99% of the CPU time, in VS2005
