Ok, so microsoft has a site that's promoting how windows desktop search can be used "in the enterprise". which is cool. but what i would like to do with it is a little bit off the wall.
see i would like to further incroporate microsoft office into this mix by adding the ability to have a sort of "quick spell check" or "quick translate" ability. in other words, what i would like to do is have the ability to give the option of changing the
grey text in the textbox from "Search Desktop" or "Search Web" to "Spellcheck" or "Translate to..." and enable the user to input text and perfrom either function, as opposed to searching for a document. then maybe after the spellcheck, translation, definition
lookup, or synonym/antonym lookup, (you can see i'm already getting new ideas) suggest a search-related function to keep the theme of the app alive.
sound good?
is it possible?
the site microsoft has shows how to extend the searches, but nothing else.
any help will be greatly appreciated,
stephen

Hmmm ... Interesting ideea. BUT it doesn't fit. DESKTOP SEARCH is DESKTOP SEARCH. As a 3rd party add-on or extension it can be but from Microsoft you wont see your ideea come true in DESKTOP SEARCH. It isn't logical. Google desktop search is the same, Yahoo too. It could be a Windows Live ideea. Send them your suggestion. You never know.
Search is search and should remain that way. Why don't you want a Media Player to ... play games.

Those functions are available from the Research toolbar in MS Office. Alt+Click on a word or phrase.

so there's no way to have a textbox in the startbar that does that?
