The story is
here.
And here I ask the following:
Is it just possible that MS Word is tangled up like PageMaker?
For those who care, Adobe was relatively honest about the C++ prose mess that PageMaker makes. So Adobe explicity rebuilt PageMaker from the ground up as InDesign using "cleaner" OOP principles.
How many Channel9 people use MS Word?

I'd say he's had a problem or two over the years with Word, but I don't see how that's a reason to start from scratch. Ford had a debacle with the Edsel but they didn't find a new replacement for gasoline because it.
I also think that he's got a mucked up install - that much is obvious. Speaking for myself, if I had this problem, I would uninstall and then reinstall Office, apply all of the patches, and try it again. Since setup is a no brainer these days, it doesn't take very long, assuming I can find my Office CD. It certainly would take a lot less time than it took to write the article... and again, I don't think that this would be a reason to scrap an entire application and "start over".
Personally, I think he just had a bad day when he wrote this. I've read Dvorak for over 15 years now and he can get cranky from time to time. -
Dvorak seems to enjoy nothing more than to see his moronic rants in print. Year after year of the same stupid opinion pieces.
And yet again he proves his lack of knowledge in the "End of the line" segment... there is no such thing as a "plain text" file... encodings and EOL characters are different depending on the o/s and such... sigh... If people would only stop reading his columns maybe the editors would finally drop him and we wouldn't have to hear anymore from him... wishful thinking i'm sure... -
Maybe he should have choose a full install or spend few minutes to make a cutomized one.
Btw I use Word since Word 2(?) I am not sure how it was called at the time.
