Yes. But all the cool kids are doing it.
The point of Ajax is that it's fairly well standardised (almost kind-of sort-of) because it uses Javascript, which the majority of web developers are familiar with.
It is a case of PR getting the better of the technology because the first time you read up on Ajax, you think 'Oh, is that all?'
