I just did a very silly thing.
I want my PC dual booting Vista/XP to prompt me before booting and NOT BOOT until I say so. I unchecked the "Time until boot" box. Now, 1. How can I be presented with the boot options again, and 2. How do I set it up so it never boots an OS by default?

Open up C:\boot.ini & it should be clear. Note: it's mark as read- only so set that off first before Saving

Vista doesn't use boot.ini IIRC, and I can't access bcdedit from XP.

You should be able to use bcdedit from XP without problems.

Windows cannot find "bcdedit".
Also: just running the EXE out of my Vista install path generates a DLL error. -
I think you can edit your boot configuration with msconfig in Vista.

But how do I GET to Vista as I've disabled the timeout for the boot prompt?
By the way, I edited the boot info through the nifty new dialog in the System Control Panel when I screwed this up. -
You may want to try VistaBootPRO.

Keep tapping F8 while your bios is booting.

Pressing F8 skips directly to the XP options.

That was useful. Now, is there any way I can keep it from booting the default at all?
