For the past couple of years, I've been using SpaceMonger to get a graphical view of what's hogging up space on my harddrive. It's small, easy to carry and gives a nice graphical representation of the drive.
Problem is, it's getting a bit old. It's not as fast as it used to be when used on pretty full >100GB drives, and the newest version isn't free like the old v1.4 was.

So I was wondering - what do you use to see a graphical breakdown of disk space? What would you recommend? Also - why? What makes your choice better? Any special gimmicks or features?
It's time to refresh my toolbox a bit, so this is a good start.

Copy/paste it instead of clicking. -

I use TreeSize... but it's not very fast and uses a tree to display the sizes.

Spacemonger latest version is awesome. Worth the price..

I like WinDirStat (http://windirstat.sourceforge.net). It's free and does an excellent job at visualizing diskspace usage.

TreeSize (the last time I used it, at least) is painfully slow and the free version doesn't deal well with NTFS permissions (stops and puts up a dialog every time it hits a folder it can't access). -
The SpaceMonger is not guilty. Any program will be "slow" performing a task that takes a lot of time by its very nature. Contemporary disks are big, very big, so it takes a substantial time to traverse all the folders and files on disk to calculate their sizes. Neither modern CPU nor a lot of RAM will help there.Yggdrasil wrote:It's not as fast as it used to be when used on pretty full >100GB drives...
I use my own size report utility - Dirlot (http://soft.km.ua/soft/dirlot/index.en.html). Don't sure whether it will strike you however it does what it destined to do - shows a folder size report on colorful diagram. And if you don't like it take a look at the applications listed in the right column at the page. Maybe you'll find somethong you like more.Yggdrasil wrote:So I was wondering - what do you use to see a graphical breakdown of disk space? What would you recommend? Also - why? Have you tried our FolderSizes disk space analysis and management utility? It offers far more than just visualization features.

What about SizeMeNow, another similar program for disk visualization? It seems to have much nicer charts and does all the same things as FolderSizes and TreeView:

I use HDGraph because I think it's prettier than a squarified treeview.Ion Todirel said:
