By default hardware virtualization is disable in the bios on my main computer. I'm using Virtual PC to test déplyement and some stuff under virtual machine, but not that much. If I enable hardware virtualization, does it have performace impact on the computer when I'm not using Virtual PC ?

Probably something to do with compatibility. If you had really new or really old hardware it might have trouble virtualizing it and crash. Then you'd be on here asking "why is this virtualize hardware option on by default? It keeps crashing everything".

Maybe it's because your motherboard has to support other cpu's that don't have hardware virtualization built in so they disable it by default.
My BIOS had Intel's Speedstep disabled even when my cpu supported it.
