I used to have xp and vista dual boot. I have since removed xp (leaving only vista). However, on boot (after displaying initial BIOS screen, the screen turns black for approximately 5 seconds before displaying the vista 'loading bar'.
I believe this to be because of the past dual boot as I remember selecting 5 seconds for 'Time to display list of operating systems'.
Vista 'startup and recovery' shows only one operating system (vista) and the 'Time to display list of operating systems' is 'greyed out' (and at 0 seconds).
I used 'vista boot pro' to dual boot the two OS's.
Any suggestions???

I have only used dual boot in Vista, but I guess at 5 seconds is for you to press F8 and select things such as "Last known good settings" or "safe mode"... don't see much problem on it.
If you press F8 when the loading bar is displayed, it'd be too late. -
As I know you can use bcdedit to specify the boot menu time-out value in Vista. Maybe you can change to 1 second. You need to run this command with administrator id.
1) Open command prompt with admin id.
2) type the following command to show your booting info.
bcdedit3) Change the timeout value. Use the /timeout option and specify the timeout value in seconds. For example, to specify a 10-second timeout value:
bcdedit /timeout 10
If still have doubts, it's better for you to post the problem again on this Vista boot pro website forum to get more info.
Hope helps..

You might consider booting from the Vista DVD and doing a repair on your boot sector/boot loader. I believe it can all be done from the GUI on Vista.
