Say I want to write a Windows Live Messenger client for a non-windows OS, what are my best options? I've looked around but I can't seem to find any sort of spec. I'd like to roll my own (ie not use an existing open source library).

Is there any kind of modern spec available? Or good resources? My searching has proved unsuccessful. Thanks!

Microsoft hasn't published any official spec since the second revision in the late 1990s. There is a very nice MSNP client library for .NET available (it's free, too) that you can use though.

I would think there would be some Azure service api for that soon. I would think.

I don't get it, what does a Mexican beer have to do with this? Is this some kind of spam? Beer spam? At least it's original.
