Hello All,
I am trying to get the SQL Express 2005 April CTP to load on a system that has VS2003 already loaded.
I did follow the readme file instructions for the uninstalls but I still get the error "Earlier versions detected"
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob Hanson

Could you clarify a bit? Is it an earlier version of SQL Express, the .NET framework? Also, what did you uninstall, and what still remains on your system.

Sure, I would be happy to.
1) VS2003 is on the system with .NET 1.1
2) VS2005 beta 2 with .NET 2.0 Beta 2.
I had selected to install SQL Express 2005 during the Beta 2 install but it had failed.
I believe I still had SQL Native CLient loaded.
I did clear that off but I can't get it to load.
Thanks for the reply,

I had similar problems trying to install the April CTp. I just found this and I'm going to try it out. It may help you (and many others) as well.

I have a similar configuration that you describe, and the instalation of SQL Express 2005 work fine for me.
I did first install .NET 2.0 Beta 2, reboot, install SQL Express. no problems
I know that not help you a lot but... this is my contribution..

Thanks for the suggestions so far but I am still not getting past the error of detecting previous versions.

I tried the tool I mentioned before and I'm still at the same place.
The only other recommendation I have is something I got from the SQL Express newsgroup, install the version that was previously installed and then uninstall it again.
I can't find let alone remember what the exact version I had installed was so I can't try it out.
