I am not sure if this is really a question, suggestion, etc. It's mostly me trying to see if I can get an idea for how many other people are in the same boat.

I recently got a Zune HD. I love it. But as a developer, a giant chunk of my buying decision was XNA. Do people from the Zune team read any of these forums? Can they hear me crying out to them in pain? Access to WIFI? Access to outside devices over the Zune connector?

Considering this is microsoft, I am hoping they are definition making some giant addition to XNA, just not yet, but really, all I really want are basic ways to talk to other hardware. Give me a serial port on the dock (I know there is some rendition of this already on there for internal use) and give me access to the Wifi. I don't need like high level stuff. Something as simple as a socket (which I am assuming is not super easy to implement by itself) would be great. I don't need a glorified app store. We are all developers. If you give us a way to make great apps, someone will make a store. That takes nowhere near as long as say trying to figure out how to break your Zune (which we dont wan't to do) - Seriously, who would stick a screwdriver to this thing.

I know the place where I work, we play with random devices all the time. We are working on making use of the ipod touch and android phones to talk to other hardware for some controls related applications. Using the zune would be ridiculously nice since all I would have to do is fire up Home #2 (aka Visual Studio).

I like what MS did with the Zune and I understand that they are kind of playing secret till they can annouce something close t ofinished, but it would be nice if they gave us some idea of what they were planning so we don't have to sit here and cringe daily at the possibility of staying this way for a while.

I don't really know if anyone here can actually help. Has anyone worked with making accessories for the Zune or are familiar with that sort of thing? Do they get special access to the connector?

I guess I am slightly abusing the fact that this is the Coffeehouse thread with my ranting and such, but I feel like this is not exactly just me. There were a lot of people from the old Zunes (one of which I also had and was crying inside knowing there was a wifi chip in there I couldn't access) who wanted similar kind of access.

So I guess, sorry. And Help. Maybe if I spammed the words "Zune Team" a bazillion times on my website along with this message...hmm.

I am planning to include 2-3 microphones in different areas of this space in hope of getting better speech recognition.

I was wondering if anyone had ideas or knows about ways to perform speech to text with C# and some library/hardware that will take input from 2 or more microphones. I just felt that if I had more microphones the person can move around the space and still be able to get good speech recog.

I know microphone arrays are useful for this, but I am not very familiar with how the arrays work with software. Do I just get one audio stream that's a mix of all 3 microphones?

Has anyone tried this with the SpeechLib that works with C#?

Thanks,
Aditya

in reply to Multiple microphones speech recognition

<evnet:views>2658</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/256380/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Hi,I am currently trying to do speech recognition in a small-ish space. Yes shooby. Microsoft really cares what a nut on a forum flames about.

To answer to your idiotic "experiment" (more like some sort of cerebral abortion that you went with anyways), I suggest you do another experiment.

1. Go to local gun store
2. Pick up several pistols and ammo
3. Load pistols with ammo and place them in various parts of your house
4. Everytime you walk across one, pick it up, shoot all rounds in random directions, reload a mag in the pistol and replace it and move on.
5. Count how many of your family members you have killed and how much damage you did to the house.
6. Now compare to my house where I will keep several pistols around and I wont shoot them randomly like an idiot.

Your "experiment" is sort of like the experiment above.

Cheers,
Aditya

in reply to Re: Windows and the Internet: Unsafe at any speed revisited

<evnet:views>1</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/344150/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>shooby wrote:My mission is to enlighten and inform. If I kill Microsoft in the process, so much the better. Who needs it. Just you.I don't know what's funnier, you even bothering with this thread or you saying you will kill Microsoft.
