And I thought I would keep you guys up too date, and hopefully discuss general design and implementation issues here.

I have just started the rough sketch of what needs to go where :) This will be my first big project from scratch so expect lots of hijynx along the way :)

First up, every aspiring engine needs a super duper cool name :D What do you guys think it could be?

Now that this is in the wild, I managed to get Office before all the download servers seemed to die :)

First up, I'm really liking outlook for some reason in the title bar it shows "Inbox - <0w> - Microsoft Office"

But I LOVE the UI, it looks really nice and clean and intutive :)

What do you guys think?

When I get Vista beta I'm gonna wipe this machine and put this and VS2005 and run the holy trinity :D

Not really, but I have finally returned :D I see Beer has written a book :)

But I suppose the original topic is relevant on my mind at the moment. I see alot of FOSS zealots chanting this slogan over and over again. What I want to know is; What are you setting us free from? Most of us are not stupid(after seeing that 60% topic im starting to wonder) and know what we get with a big company like MS. But we also know what we would get with something like a Linux distro(heck the only distros worth running are from major companies)

So please, tell this unenlightened fool :s What are you setting me free from? What cosmic truth am I missing while not on the FOSS bandwagon!

My noobness has caught up with me ;)

Just trying to read a txt file stream and then put it in a multiline textbox. Here's some sample code :D

Stream myStream;
//open filedialog stuff.
openFileDialog1.Filter = "txt files (*.txt)|*.txt|All files (*.*)|*.*";

if ((myStream = openFileDialog1.OpenFile()) != null)
                {
                    string sPythonString = Convert.ToString(myStream);

                    txtInputScript.Text = sPythonString;
                }

So i'm thinking, great ;) But when I open up the text file this is all I get is this in the textbox.

System.IO.FileStream

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

Uh-oh.

First it gives me a problem about it being corrupt, or not having sufficent security rights(on admin at the moment)

So how do I fix it guys?

"Codename: Phoenix" Prerelease is Now Available

Yesterday we released the PRERELEASE version of the research software development kit for Phoenix (aka the Phoenix RDK). It's available for download at http://research.microsoft.com/phoenix/. Prior to yesterday it was only available to selected academics. The RDK does require Visual Studio 2005, as the RDKrequires the .NET 2.0 Fx, as well as makes use of the compilation technology in VS2005.

On the above Phoenix webpage there are also some great material to help learn about Phoenix. I'll use this blog to discuss some technical issues around Phoenix. Currently I'm debating if my next blog will be a walkthrough a code sample or a primer on symbols in Phoenix. In either, have fun with the RDK until then. And as always, I look forward to your feedback (either as a comment or via email).

1.5 Release is terrible for me.

Had it crash a couple of times, and now i've found the best bug for it :@ Somehow the tabs just "freeze" but the application is still responsive in other ways, I can still click on the news RSS feed in the toolbar and it will display(but will not go anywhere)

Great release guys.

The beta was more stable than this.
