....name a good reason why any web-developer would want to do that?

Windows development, fine, but not webdev.

I'm not talking simple web pages here I'm talking actual web application where just like in windows programming the gui could change depending on the screen resolution.  Some gui components may be hidden by default to avoid scrolling for instance.

But just to dumb it down for you, if there were a background image that was displayed based on screen resolution.

I found that in multi monitor workstation set ups have all the monitors the same size and same resolution is a must.

Having differing sizes is headache inducing.

Depending on what you do, multi-monitors with different resolutions is a great idea.  I wish more people did it.  It helps in seeing how your web pages or applications will look at different resolutions without having to switch your primary display.  This is especially helpfully in web development where some people (me included) still support people running at 800x600.

....or just resize the browser window?

That wouldn't work if you're detecting the size of the screen or doing windows development.

You know Jaz, if you were to substitute the words blacks, jews, indians or even minorities in your statement it would sound just like the statements that many of those people make.  Not that I'm saying you're anywhere near like them, the fact remains that it's a dangerous way of thinking.

    Damn that was racist...

Then by that logic it would make Jaz's comments sexist.

No, you referring to "those people" and then implying it is bad to be "anywhere near like them" is racist, not any of Jaz's comments in this thread. He's fine and brings up some legitimate questions.

OK once again for the people who miss understood and are trying to make something out of nothing....

First, what I meant by "those people" I meant the types of people who would make that kind of statement.  Not blacks, jews, indians or minorities.  Not sure how you missed it but everyone else got it.

Second, that statement was just to point out the similarities of comments often said by other people but with just with different words.  By that I mean sometimes people say things such as that and somehow don't realize how offensive it is to others.

Third, I also wanted to point out how silly it is to discuss not encouraging a specific group of people.  If you start thinking like that then why stop at women, the next step is something along the lines of the other groups I mentioned.  Why?  Because you've already started down the line of some people perceive discrimination.

Fourth, I never stated that anyone was a sexist; I was just applying the logic set forth by someone else looking to provoke such nonsense.

No wonder they have disclaimers on tv commercials that say toys don't really talk and move on their own.  People can't seem to see things for what they really are.  My comments that is.

Typically when people who work together "look" alike whether they all be male or a certain race or religion, they typically band together and think the same.  There are exceptions of course but that's just the way it happens.  People are more comfortable with people who look and sound like themselves.

In order for IT to grow we need a good mix of people of all types including different sexes.  Males and females approach problems differently and that's the nature of science, to solve a problem.

Lastly, we definitely need more women in IT, I'm sick of looking at you "guys"![A]

  • WMP 11 Bug

I've been searching around microsoft's site for about an hour (and connect.microsoft.com for about 5 mins) and have come to the realization that there is no way to submit a bug for WMP without actually calling MS so I'll post it here and see what becomes of it.  This problem has existed in WMP 9 and 10 now in 11.  Hopefully a patch will fix this and I won't have to wait until 12 for it to be fixed.

BUG: If you have two cd/dvd drives installed and insert a cd into both drives WMP will connect online and get the disc info for the cd's.  If you eject one of the cd's and put in another cd, WMP will not refresh and get the info for the new cd.  You must close WMP and re-open it for the change to be detected.  WMP will still display the cd's info even if you close the drive without a cd.

Can someone on the WMP team please correct this.  It's a real pain when you are trying to rip a lot of cd's and have to keep closing the application to get it to function the way you want it to.

  • Small Business Server 2003 !

I've had a client up and running on SBS 2003 Standard for about a year now.  I use the following sites as reasources:

E-Bitz - SBS MVP the Official Blog of the SBS "Diva"

    Inside SBS

    SeanDaniel.com on SBS 2003 & other Tech-stuff

but the first place you should start is:

    SmallBizServer

Lots of good tips, tuturials and best practices.  As far as tips from me, it all depends on what the server is used for.  You're not using Exchange so that eliminates some headaches there.  Are you running Premium or Standard?  What's the servers role?

  • Why Does Apple always makes fun of Microsoft at WWDC?

When ever people boast about how Mac's are better than PC's I always remind them that they almost didn't have their precious Mac's because the company was near folding until BG & MS reached into their pockets and helped them out.  Some people pretend to forget this.
