What is "mort"? The only thing I can think of is "death".

Mort is one of three developer persona's created by Microsoft to better help capture and communicate the Visual Studio/Platform target market's. Mort is basically someone who does not have a fully developed understanding of Computer Science concepts (i.e. Algorithms
and Data Structures 101). Personally, the mort's I have dealt with seem to have a chip on their shoulder and harbor a degree of contempt for those that do have this knowledge. If you have an Einstein or Elvis (two other personas) working with Morts, they need
to be aware of this and change their vocabulary around a Mort, otherwise, you will have a swarm of angry morts on your hands. I.e: Use "the where" instead of "constraint" when discussing SQL code. Avoid too much OO terms such as polymorphism, etc.

Coffeehouse - Nabbing Scott Guthrie

Is he *that* smart? Obviously I've only seen him on C9 and know that you probably dont get to that kind of a role in MS with only a collection of good one liners and a smile like you might in say... the mortgage industry. But, the idea that he is such a
solid and consistent source of good ideas while many other MS'rs might not be or that his proportional weight to his colleagues is so signifigant is... disturbing? Is he human? Alien? a first and experimental incarnation of Singularity? Did he tap the noosphere?

Would it be possible for MSR to quantify each employees 'smarts' and present it in a nice dynamic WPF/Silverlight Tree-Map? That would be 'hot'. And be a nice way for all those on the 'outside' to really see just how smart he is. And... how brightly the
glow is going to be in the doorway cracks from Rory's closet (better get some good electrical tape buddy)

Coffeehouse - Wow they're taking this home branding for WHS seriously

So Microsoft's branding is cheesy and uninspiring to the point of contempt. On the bright side, they're pretty consistent.

This actually does make an otherwise appealling product look somewhat unattractive. Who wants to use software that looks like it's trying to be an antidepressant commercial?

That's actually not a bad image. It connects with a large demographic from an 'emotional' or, 'right-brain' angle. There is a little bit of cheese on it but, I think on balance it resonates with those that it reflects. I think it's also important to consider
that companies like Microsoft have to architect their campaigns to appeal to an enormous audience so that rather than utilizing material that deeply resonates with any one niche, it is more important for them not to offend or alienate.
