Heh, you should actually check it out before you start critiquing... this is just ONE of MANY potential GUIs

Just because the default GUI is plain doesn't mean it's not a great audio player, mind you its features range far beyond the GUI (as the screenshot I sent you illustrates by demonstrating that it has great extensibility support).
My Bad, I thought I had detected sarcasm. Skinned, it does look a lot better. Personally, I have winamp installed on my pc for shoutcast. It is pretty extensible, but I have grown to enjoy the media sharing and library features of WinMP 11. I love the fact

Yeah I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic either. I use Shoutcast through Foobar2000 (it really does a TON of things, and what it doesn't do you can usually write yourself as a plug-in). But I will concede that WMP11's media library is very impressive,
and the media sharing capabilities are also to be envied.

I guess the only media player I have no use for is Winamp, Foobar2000 and WMP11 are vastly superior each in their own way. I can even use Winamp visualizations (Milkdrop, and a few others) from Foobar

Def. will take a look. I also recall the Media sharing services in WMP11 as being a seperate download before WinMP 11 came out... so maybe if someone really hated WMP they could find that download in the "Microsoft Attic" and remove WMP... There are also other
tools available (TVersity comes to mind) that will host a slew of media for consumption by WMP and other media devices like XBOX360.

Tech Off - have a query, mathematical style

You're working with base-26 (if your only letters are A-Z) then it would be taken to the 3rd power. 26^3 = 17576 possible combinations.

Also you have base-10 for the first three digits, 1000 possible combinations (10^3) ...

What are the total possible combinations for this state's license plate? I'd guess 1000 x 17,576= 17,576,000 (for 000-ZZZ only) and 17576000 x 2 = 35,152,000 (for 000-ZZZ and ZZZ-000 formats)

No it was on my workstation, internal only. but they got the link from the local bboard, and then read it completely. One use of the word "damn" and critique of how the computer service dept. doesnt know how to to configure a PIX and that's all it took
for them to print the entire site out. The boss had a copy with post-it notes on it made by someone in HR.

I hate "politcal correctness" and this just makes me want to scream right now. But I'll survive, I changed my link on the bboard to my personal blog that's not hosting on company servers, etc. lol. Now I just cant talk about anything work related on the outside.

Coffeehouse - Funny campaign from web standards project

Just use MyIE. Has all the user experience you need and uses the IE engine. fin.

edit:
Did anybody read these testimonials? Bwhahahahahaha.

Alan: http://browsehappy.com/people/alan/
His Problem: Resource Usage too great with IE
Opinion: Typical user that has clicked Yes one too many times on those spyware install popups. He was probably choked with Two search bars, multiple spy programs, etc... Prove that wrong, where are the details of other programs he was running... Here's a fun
fact for you:

Two browser windows open browsing that URL above on my XP box right now:

iexplore.exe 8,480k
firefox.exe 18,936k

WTF mate? One could argue that's the nature of how firefox manages memory suck up a bunch on startup so pages load faster. I'm going to do the 20 web pages open test in a bit.

Chris: http://browsehappy.com/people/chris/
His Problem: Web page loading speed
Opinion: How much faster was Firefox? Did he time them? Perceived speed? .05 seconds faster? Or is it that the engine loaded the text, then images to give the perception of faster loading? I want statistics, not some guys perception as proof of speed.

I have to go to a meeting right now so someone else who's keen on debunking this bunk continue my analysis.

Thanks.

Coffeehouse - XP SP2 über patch already needs fixing

I just don't understand it. XP2 works fine for me. I disabled the XP firewall because I already have a firewall on my cable router. None of my applications have been impacted by the update. none! Sites I visit with pop-ups were initially blocked, but after
a simple two clicks of the mouse they were added to the allow-list for pop-ups and all was well... Why is that considered "breaking" a web app? I guess incompetence at diagnosing and troubleshooting computers is Microsoft's fault. :sigh: You really should
have a license to use a computer, some people just aren't competent behind the keyboard. lol.

Tech Off - Theoretically speaking: How safe is .Text?

Oh I'm sure it's not a problem exclusive to .Text. That'd be ignorant to insinuate that. I chose .Text because that is what Microsoft uses on their blogs.msdn.com site and what I use as well. If some pissed off anti-Microsoft zealot wanted to shut down the
Microsoft's first and true open discussion portal with it's customers, they'd only have to implement something like I described above. The only way I see around it is to force a registration before posting comments.

Tech Off - Theoretically speaking: How safe is .Text?

I was reading the blogs.msdn.com home page and I saw a comment from someone stating "wonder how long it will be before the Microsoft haters spam this site"

Which led me to think, since anyone can post a comment to a blog post, I am wondering how long it will be before we see a DoS worm that targets sites with /rss.aspx feeds? Random comment generators, filling of database back-ends with comments, etc. An army
of 1,000 infected machines would probably put down your average web site.

I say theoretically speaking because I do not know if .Text has provisions to prevent this, I do know that out of the box anonymous users can leave comments.. so I assume a standard automated POST call is all that is needed to spam away.

I'm curious because I use .Text on my site as well and I'm sure some anti-Microsoft nut-job is already working on this concept.

What do you folks think?

Tech Off - Where are we going? (.Net vs XAML)

My take on it is both winforms and XAML will be used in the future. Winforms for applications that will be distributed with the usual install, and XAML for transmitting rich-client interfaces via http or other transport protocol. That way you get application
processing off the server and onto the client (where it should be) without having to have the user install something... the oneClick load, JIT, and display concept rocks.
