Thanks for the feedback.

I have put up a version of the new scoring system, it took me a little time as there are some quirks to scoring in this game (when you get 3 in a bed the other player gets the next point).

I've also added scrollbar support (my HTML is a bit rusty)

A side effect of the new scoring system is the removal of the alert windows.

Whilst I appreciate you are keeping to the pure form of the game the win condition does seem to take a long time.

It would also be a big help to be able to identify which side was in play. A moments distraction and you can lose who is to play. This may be removed if there is an "against the computer" mode.

For beginners it would also help if there was some indication of when the calculations indicated the coin was in a bed.

For my SQL reports, I use visual studio, and post them to the SQL Report Server we host. Our users aren't going to use Visual Studio...

I think the tool you are after for the SQL Server Reporting Services stack is the SQL Server Report Builder. It is a Click Once application that lets users build reports based on a defined data model and then either publish them to a users area in Reporting
Services or, if permissions allow to the public reports area.

You can find links to the standalone CTP build of version 3 in
the sidebar here

As with ALL tools that I have come across for user report building this does need a data model to make the underlying database accessable but as a "free" tool it works as well as the competition.

I don't get why Ch9 is even in a webfarm. I know plenty of massively high-traffic websites (we're talking top-1000 sites) that don't employ any kind of load-balancing, they just run a single (but high-powered) server for running PHP/whatever and another
server for static content and the database (which might be on a third server if DB load is high enough).

So why is Channel9 overengineered?

I am also in this camp. I refer you to Dr Herbies ignored thread
on the Feedback forum.

I can't comment on the posting bug as I am not smart enough to pass coment on most of the threads. However, I would note that the poor alignment of the sign in/log out links and the fact that the video controls are largely hidden does not reflect well on
a site that is supposed to be a flagship developer forum.

On the video note, I often want to to watch the videos to remind myself just how dumb I am, but if I want to watch a video I need to start it, wait for the first word and then pause it for 30 mins so that it caches enough to watch. I dont believe this is
just my bandwidth as videos from www.TED.com etc stream just fine.

Coffeehouse - New wireless router - any ideas?

LeoDavidson said:

I've found Belkin to be pretty awful, as have many friends. Anecdotal, of course, but I don't think I've seen anyone recommend them either. The setup UI was pretty poor (but may have improved now; I've avoided the brand since) and I had problems like the
entire thing locking up, requiring a hard reboot, when my then-laptop (HP/Compaq FWIW) used the Wifi and transfered a large amount of data quickly.

Not sure what to recommend, though... I'm using a Thompson/Alcatel router at the moment which my ISP gave me... it's *almost* good, except that it's full of bugs (reboots itself if you do too much UPnP or VPN stuff... sigh). I went looking for a replacement
and decided it was less irritating putting up with my current router than it was finding the best new one.

There are so many to choose from but every one seems to be missing some feature (e.g. all the NetGear ones seem to have 100mbit hubs like it's still the 1870s or something).

It's also made more complex by some manufacturers (NetGear especially) releasing new and unrelated routers with the same name as older ones. Makes it difficult to know exactly what you are buying, given that many online stores sell old/discontinued stock.

It boggles my mind why so many routers are still so buggy these days. Surely this stuff should be down pat by now. It's not like they do anything _that_ complicated or difficult to test, or different between vendors/models.

Re the setup. I am slightly less scared of this as having been designated "the parent who can" I have spent many hours installing free routers for other parents so I have wrestled with many variations of this theme!

The Netgear ethernet -V- Gigabit is less of an issue as my machine to machine connection is limited and bound by wireless speeds.

The buggy +product version variation issues are exactly why I posted this. Any reviews seem to be based on a specific release and it is hard to trust comments that may be out of date compared to more recent firmware updates!

Thanks for your impression I will be proceeding with caution!

Coffeehouse - What were you doing?

Well I remember it well. I was working on the planning team for the security for the

UK Labour Party (the government) Conference in Brighton.

This was being attended by all the Government as well as visiting politicians. Ever since an
unfortunate incident
with Maggie this has always had a lot of security.

I was standing outside our offices adjacent to the conference centre and hotel when one of the search teams that had been doing searches in the conference centre came in and said a plane had just crashed in New York. Thinking it was a light aircraft accident
we carried on working until almost every scrambled egg (Senior Officer) flooded in.

We then worked 52 Hrs almost non stop turning a medium to low threat conference into a high threat one. In the process trying to keep the brass from overreacting.

We did manage to point out that a
Destroyer off the coast was not applicable to the threat being posed and that a

24 hr Combat Air Patrol in the same place as one of the major flight paths into the UK might not be much help!

Still I do have one fond memory, we were staying in a hotel in Brighton along with a number of Army personnel who were helping with some of their specialist skills they had learnt over the water in Northern Ireland. These were stereotype squaddies with short
cropped hair and muscles. One night they decided to try the night life in Brighton. What they didn’t know was that Brighton has a VERY active gay scene and they walked into one of the
biggest gay bar
in Brighton. They were back in the hotel in 10 mins! It must have been the “Blue Oyster Bar” scene for real!
Mr Scoble has been hooked. I particularly like these 2 quotes:

Facebook's administrators have access to a database about who knows who, how they know them, their sexual behaviour, favourite movies and what time they are chill: a database of which the Stasi or the Mukhabarat could only have dreamed.

Sooner or later, privacy be damned, the damage Facebook causes to the British economy in lost productivity may have to be offset by the sale of its data to marketing companies.
