We already know that. Most of the patents belong to IBM, who have pledged not to sue Linux developers and companies unless they need to protect themselves by law.

Open-source  companies  sometimes buy patents Linux and/or other components allegedly are infringing upon.

    Regards,
    Vincent

Sorry, I wasn't that clear apparently. Please read the final part as "there are Microsoft-owned patents violations in Linux".

Yes, about thirty patents or so.

The kernel and FUSE NTFS drivers being one of them.

I've also read somewhere that Microsoft allegedly infridges on some IBM patents and that a lawsuit against Linux and open-source could signal a counter-suit from IBM.

    Vincent

Yeap It a Minefield all arround Big Smile

I did PaoloM. Of course having the Linux Source code available allows them to look and make these claims. I assume if that is the stance the Windows Source will also be opened now to allow checking for patent violations ?

Most of the Windows source has been available for quite some time to interested parties. I am pretty sure that, if there was some violation, it would have come up pretty quickly

Er... you completely lost me here

Yes Im aware alot of the source is available to Interested parties ( Large Institutions and development houses / MVP's in some cases etc ).  Are they likely to want to rock boat or for that matter know if source is encumbered ?

Yeap More I read about all of this ( And more to the point what it DOESNT say ) The less and less I like the sounds of this. The timing  if nothing else makes me go Hmmmmmmmmmmmm as already pointed out by previous posts Big Smile

Indeed some 'divide and conquer' strategy might be at work here Wink

  • Microsoft Linux - it's official.

I think you will find its good news for 5 YEARS and not for any MS IP/patents  from now on. So for instance any Patents /IP as a result of development of WPF/WCF/.Net 3.0 arent covered as Im sure It talks about 'limited' protection in future in articles Ive read. Just my $0.02 worth.

  • The end of Democracy?

My comments over UK polling and the issue of people in UK been subjects and not citizens, Abuses of power due to lack of written constitution etc was merely me pointing out that  these days no one worldwide can really sit there claiming their overall system is better and pointing the finger at someone else.

Alot in UK trying to defend what goes on here roll out the 'We were first and so its the best' argument which is of course bogus Smiley

As far as certain US posters going on about the British class system etc I suggest you look at the background and family trees of some of your Offcials Wink  As an example Prescott Bush Big Smile

  • The end of Democracy?

    Hi Masif,

yes we vote on bits of Paper from a pad of Voting slips BUT dont think that means its so great Wink

The pad has a COUNTERFOIL for each one with a CODE NUMBER on the back of it you will find is also on Your voting slip.  Now on the Countefoil when they hand it you they  at very least write YOUR role number on front from the register of eligible voters for that voting station or the full code off your voting card if you present it in PENCIL ( Wonder why its in Pencil Wink ).

Spot the problem here ? Yeap the vote is clearly NOT secret if so desired by the 'Authorities'. With the counterfoil book/s and slips they can find out what everyone voted .

So what are the odds that anyone who votes for a Party the 'powers that be' dont like but are perfectly legal ( BNP,Respect,Socialist Labour ? ) will be noted for 'special attention'   Smiley

Good to see someone Pointing out we are SUBJECTS here not CITZIENS.  Allows all manner of Abuses of Power when combined with the fact we have no written constitution.

I frankly dont think we can say anything about anyone elses voting System/Democracy as a result Big Smile

  • Looking for a .Net VB developer.

Ah in UK . Now why didnt that suprise me when I saw a low rate Quoted Big Smile
