A 100MB boot partition and usually the rest of the drive as the system partition.

Windows Vista has the KB946557 issue. Does this issue arise from INT13 support? I don't have an EFI BIOS for GPT boot support on my X58 chipset based mainboard.

What I'd like to know is, if Windows 7 can boot and run if the system partition is larger than 2TB. Call me crazy, but I'm running out of space and would need to expand it. :)

in reply to Does Windows 7 have the famous 2TB limit?

<evnet:views>665</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/504563/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Unlike Windows Vista, Windows 7 uses two partitions in the standard configuration. [Getting a server silent?]

I got an old IBM eServer xSeries 336 today. However that thing is annoyingly loud. You can hear it through the whole house, just because of the fans. So I'm wondering if anyone here has some experiences with silent server fans for 1U servers.
Currently there are 5 SanAce40 fans (28mm deep) and three weird 56mm deep ones I can't figure out by whom they were made. They're ball bearing fans (cheap and noisy).

You can find a lot for gaming PCs and multimedia stuff, but I can't find anything for servers. If anyone knows quiet 40mm fans, preferably with fluid dynamic bearing, I'd really appreciate it.

in reply to Getting a server silent?

<evnet:views>950</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/472013/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>I got an old IBM eServer xSeries 336 today.

suffers scratches, cracks, or other cosmetic damage as a result of normal wear and tear and/or accident or abuse;

is used with non-Microsoft hardware products or software not licensed by Microsoft (including but not limited to adaptors and power supply sources) or which are otherwise not compatible;

is used for commercial purposes (including rental or lease);

is modified or tampered;

is damaged by Acts of God, power surge, misuse, abuse, negligence, accident, wear and tear, mishandling, misapplication, intrusion of or exposure to liquids, or other causes unrelated to defective materials or workmanship;

serial number is defaced, altered, or removed;

is damaged by programs, data, viruses, or files, or during shipments;

is not used in accordance with the accompanying documentation and use instructions; or

is opened, disassembled, repaired, modified, or altered by other than Microsoft authorized repair centers.

That basically means, you have no warranty, especially not, when you plug your Zune into a computer of any kind (MS doesn't make those), you use it and scratch it with dirt in your pockets, you're trying to make money selling it, you catch a computer virus (and you couldn't even proove that was never the case), or if Microsoft would simply say it was an act of God, lol.
I have not read many warranty disclaimers, but this is overkill, really.

in reply to Zune Warranty

<evnet:views>875</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/465398/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Quote: http://www.zune.net/en-us/support/productguide.htm

This isn't any bad, when Aero is turned on, because then, the graphics card handles the rendering. However if it turned off, videos get pixilated and even slow, because the CPU has to perform the rendering.
Also, Windows uses shared memory it dedicates to the graphics card and changes it dynamically, when an application asks for memory and the free memory goes below a certain treshold.
I would like to know how I could get Vista to permanently use 96MB (no, I don't want to disable it, because it wouldn't matter for those complaining about Vista using up unused memory and dedicating it to the graphics card anyway) of shared memory (to get a total of 128), because it causes my screen to flicker whenever the dynamic value changes and how I can get the old overlay mode that gave polling translucent applications a black response for the screen pixel area. If anyone knows, I'm thankful for an answer. :)

PS: Any typos are a gift from the handwriting recognition and may or may not suited for your sense of humor and amusement. :D
in reply to graphics/display in Windows Vista

<evnet:views>1137</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/435082/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>In Windows Vista, video overlay mode isn't overlay and translucent windows may poll for the background.
