Microsoft has got its groove back -- at least when it comes to designing an operating system that really delivers. By comparison, Apple's most recent product launch -- a multitouch mouse -- looks almost laughable. Still, Microsoft could definitely learn a few things from Apple's product presentations. Redmond needs to match its marketing prowess to its engineering.

The article appeared on Cnet that compares performances of Snow Leopard with. Windows 7's is the most ridiculous example of FUD that I've read lately. The test has been done on a MacBook Pro and while someone might argue about testing Windows 7 on Apple's hardware, it could be still fine, but the funny fact is that to make this comparison Snow Leopard has been installed on a

Hitachi hard drive, while Windows 7 on a Western Digital drive, clearly those drives could have different performances so then they introduce an important variabile in a comparison, altering it from the beginning.Four softwares have been tested.One is Cinebench R10 that is a 3D rendering software of third parties and therefore it's a fair test. In that case Windows 7 resulted faster than Snow Leopard.

Then, Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, a game, has been tested, and also in that case under Windows 7 it gave the best performances. And now watch this: the audio encoding speed has been tested using iTunes, a software written by Apple and ported to Windows 7 with doubtful quality. Really much significant as a test, isn't it?

But the thing hits rock bottom with the video encoding test done using QuickTime... not only QuickTime is a software that has been written natively on OS X, they have tested QuickTime using QuickTime X on Snow Leopard an QuickTime 7 on Windows, those are two completely different versions, giving the pretext that QuickTime 7 doesn't run on Snow Leopard, a really wrong

thing because QuickTime 7 can be installed on Snow Leopard, and if they really wanted to be sure to test similar functionalities the two QuickTime 7 they should have used QuickTime Pro that is available for both platforms.

Easy to guess: both iTunes and QuickTime had better performances under OSX... an opposite result would have been a surprise! Who knows why they haven't tried softwares like Firefox, OpenOffice,Photoshop and so on?

Maybe because Snow Leopard would have been defeated? It must be acknowledged that the Cnet writer underlines the low validity of the comparison between QuickTime X and QuickTime 7, but however he didn't rerun the test with a third party software for a more fair comparison.

And then, how AppleInsider entitled the linked Cnet's article?

"Apple's Snow Leopard bests Windows 7 in speed tests “

hen, it wraps up with:

"Unless you are a gamer, get a Mac.

"Maybe they think Cinebench R10 is a game... :D They are really smart, on four tests Windows 7 wins on the only two test partially reliable and they manage to deduce that Snow Leopard is faster than Windows 7... There's nothing to do, apart from laughing at them.
