  • Anyone seen this "beautiful" bug? [WMP12]

While simply playing some songs this beautiful things happened to my WMP12:

It started off with only one X-ed Button but then it finally looked like this...

Never seen something like this and was a bit shocked about it.

Doesn't look good if such things can happen.

Anyone knows where I could report this?

  • News on the next Windows OS?

I thought it was clear that MS is now working on a vista successor behind closed doors with a targeted release of 2009 to 2010, as I read this weeks ago...

And I also read, that they want to do more than just cosmetical changes to the UI since the maintainer of the new office 2007 UI changed over to the Windows Team to do more than little changes...

Where did you see the iPhone does not support autofocus?  Not seen that on the specs page.

So the P990 has a web browser that can handle the Acid2, supports RSS, auto rotates when you tilt you phone on it's side.  Allows you to browse you music by categories or cover art. Has visual voicemail, can merge a call in two touchs of the screen.  Interact with google maps so you can locate a business for example then click to call. Has a photo manager than can do slideshows with effects, allows you pinch/stretch a photo just using your fingers.  Will sync with PC, Mac and Internet services seamlessly. And can all be done without a stylus.

    • If it supports autofocus, it would be presented as a feature since not so many phones have autofocus. Another indication for it not having autofocus is the slim size of the phone, because an autofocus camera needs more space.
    • Sony Ericsson smartphones come preloaded with the Opera browser and even the non smartphone SEs have a usable browser and RSS support for 1 year at least.
    • Sony Ericsson has a walkman player in its phones where you indeed can browse your music by categories, with the v2 player also with album art.
    • There are several voicemail apps which can be downloaded and used on the p990.
    • Slideshows are no problem for the P990, you could install an extra app for that too (where is the sdk for the iphone?!).
    • If google would release there maps software for other phones, it would be no problem to run it on the p990.
    • It syncs seamlessly with PC, Mac and over the internet.
    • And you can blindly write sms or emails without watching at your fingers...
    • You can work without a stylus.

If it's that new and innovative why no big launch, why didn't all the other mobile manufacturers share prices drop when it was announced?  If it's that crap the why did the stock market react so suddenly to the announcement?

It's because Apple products normally get overhyped...

I have a 3G phone now and the network support and coverage is laughable.  Maybe in a few years time it will be as good as existing networks but by then Apple will probably release a phone to support it.

Here in austria, 3G coverage is good at least.

The only hardware advantage over a Sony Ericsson P990 is the screen resolution, everything else is on par at most. The iPhone doesn't have autofocus, it doesn't have UMTS, etc.
The P990 has animations too (supports 3d too), also unsigned 3rd party applications do work on symbian v9/UIQ 3 if you want to.
Design of the iPhone is sweet, but i don't think that blind typing is really working without keys...

  • WinFX is now .NET Framework 3.0

well, the installer said "winfx runtime components 3.0" since the beginning...

  • My Vista review ;)

well, the style of vista is not really near to perfect.

some questions i asked myself on my blog:

When i round trip in windows explorer, using the keyboard to navigate is not possible unless you select a folder or file with the mouse. this makes it unimpossible to navigate by keyboard. note that this behavior can only be seen when you opened another place in it after you opened the windows explorer itself. Hopefully this is just a bug.

Why does the sidebar have 1 pixel transparent borders on the left and right side when it is in the "in front" mode? It doesn't have those borders when set to normal.

Why do some Controls like scrollbars or also some buttons have a nice rollover fade animation effect while others don't? Compare for example hovering over the breadcrumbs bar, the drop down arrow of the search field or the scroll bars in windows explorer with the task buttons in the taskbar, the windows orb, the selections in the start menu and many more.

Why are the shadows of drop down menus, tooltips and other stuff not perspectively correct in comparison to the glass window shadows?

Why are there shadows in a completely wrong direction in windows defender and system settings with ultimate extras information in comparison to the glass window shadows?

Why don't I get focus in the address field of IE after pressing ALT+T for opening up a new tab?

Why are there sometimes black or white blocks instead of the content of a window when starting a program or dialog? I thought it gets all rendered through the graphics card and direct x, never saw such artifacts in games!

Why do I need to see window flickering/artifacts when resizing a window (with correctly redraw of the windows contents/controls lagging behind the window size)? this is somewhat outdated, don't we have 2006 and fast computers? why doesn't it just resize it internally, wait for a corrected version and than draw it to the screen or something like that?

The mouse dialog has the same mouse icon as it was used since win 95. Very classic.

Why do the minimize and maximize animations flicker or disappear when you have a window in maximized state and minimize or maximize a normal sized explorer window in front of it?

  • Vista and WPF

well, so someone could build a Expose like program with the DWM Thumbnail functions?
    That would be cute...

  • No PC to PC sync in vista?!

according to some newssites, vista won't come with the PC-to-PC syncronisation function (which was planned to be included and still can be seen in beta 2) because it does not reach internal quality requirements.

man, i need this feature very much! I have a laptop and a PC which need to be syncronized as i work with both and need the data in a consistent shape.

now it looks like i have to stick with the SyncToy powertoy for my vista-life, or will we get the sync stuff later on with an update?

  • Vista beta 2 (5384.4) issues

The Beta 2 looks good but there are so many glitches that i doubt they can fix all of them.
Aero Glass issues with the animations (man, they have so less animations and not even they work well!) and a lot of other stuff as you can see from chris pirillos blog.
I wrote a small list of additions to chris' post here.

  • Vista broadcom problems with Acer Aspire laptops.

which drivers do automatically switch off the radio of WLAN? thats just silly, we have to kick the programmers asses [6] my, althought externally pcmcia wlan card does work like a charm with the standard vista drivers.

it could likely be that you have to install a utility or driver from acer to get your special buttons to live (if they aren't BIOS controlled and windows known).
or maybe you have a bios option for the default behavior of your WLAN antenna?
