[DWM adopts Windows?]

I've occasionally a really strage behavior on my vista-machine:

Somethims if I''m killing the Java-VM with a debugger attached, a windows doesn't die together with the java.exe process. It just
"hangs" around, no-movable and black.

When I'm inspecting the windows in Spy++, the window got adopted by the desktop window manager (dwn). The windows is a "Ghost" and "disabled". And if I kill the window with "task->bar-right-klick->close" the dwm-process gets restarted.

Has someone an idea how to explain this behavior? It isn't a problem, but I'm curious.

Sceen (black window and spy++):

in reply to DWM adopts Windows?

<evnet:views>683</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/418322/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>I've occasionally a really strage behavior on my vista-machine:Somethims if I''m killing the Java-VM with a debugger attached, a windows doesn't die together with the java.exe process.
A service on my Windows Vista (SP1 RC) is regularly running mad. If it is using 50% of the Dual-Core-CPU and never stops. If it is doing this, I can't open the windows-taskmanager and some other applications. Somehow it is locked up. Even the UAC has problems to show up, if I launch the Sysinternals Process Explorer as admin-user.

With the Process Explorer I can see that on Thread of the "wevtsvc.dll" seems to do somehow a busy-wait on "ntkrnlpa.exe!KeWaitForMultipleObjects" =(.

Now I've no idea what I should do. Just re-install windows or troubleshoot further. My question is if you guy know a strategy for exploring such problems or know a excellent forum to ask?

thx gamlor

in reply to Mad windows service

<evnet:views>1592</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/260217/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Hi
