For our core R&D type roles (Developer, Developer in Test, and Program Manager), they typically aren't part of our evaluation criteria. For some other roles, like Consultants, they may be more of a requirement ... but even if they are, we (recruiting) don't have access to the database of certified professionals or their test scores.

Hi everyone - I'll try to clear up some confusion.

Microsoft has a lot of open positions ... we have lots every year. Smiley  I just searched our US careers page, and it returned current 4060 openings.

We also have a very active college recruiting team, and you can check out their page here. If your specific school is listed, you can find the name and email address of your recruiter, and you can email that person directly.

Anyone is always welcome to send me a resume at anytime, and I’ll make sure I’ll route it out to our recruiters and get it in our database

I started this current promotion as a way for you to submit a fun creation about why you want to work at Microsoft along with your resume. (And get some free stuff out of it.) While programs you write are fun, please make sure they are in the spirit of showing why you have a passion for working at Microsoft. (i.e. Something that has a little BillG who pops up and says, "you’re hired.") Think of it as if you are applying to a reality TV show. You want to showcase your own personality and be super creative.

This isn’t a contest in that there is not one winner. What happens once after you submit your resume and creation is the same as when anyone applies for a job . . . I’m sure some will get hired, and some will not. But this gives you a chance to pitch your case with more than just a resume. (And if you just want to submit a resume with no creation, that's ok, too. You'll still be considered for jobs here!)

Honestly?  Probably not.  There are certain groups who look for advanced degrees (masters and PhD) - but most groups just want smart, passionate people.  So in most cases, while a Masters degree might be nice, I don't necessarily think it would give any one the edge.  Just my 2cents though.  Others are free to disagree.  It varies from team to team.

How do I get it to you?
Send me a link to a file hosted on your own website or email me a copy of your creation.  (No hard copies such as VHS tapes accepted.)

What’s in it for me?
Lots!
  • Get real eyes on your creation.  All submissions will be uploaded to an internal website so any Microsoft recruiter or hiring manager can review it.  Who knows what that could lead to . . . Maybe even BillG will be watching!
  • Get free stuff.  US residents will receive one complimentary copy of Visual Studio 2003, Office XP, Windows XP, or various Xbox/PC games (while my supplies last) and a Microsoft Rubik’s cube.  (Free stuff is only available to US residents due to international laws and regulations. However, non-US residents are still welcome to submit their creations!)
  • Get noticed.  If you grant permission, I will also post your creation on JobsBlog for others to oooh and ahhh.  And Microsoft recruiters aren’t the only recruiters who read JobsBlog.  A little competition is always healthy!
Anything to keep in mind?
  • Submit a written copy of your written resume (.doc, .pdf, .txt, etc) along with your creation.
  • Keep your content under 2 minutes.
  • No profanity, nudity, or vile humor. Smiley
When is this due?
You are always welcome to create and send this type of “resume” to me . . .  but the deadline for this particular offer is Thursday, September 15 at 11:59 pm Redmond time (GMT -8 hours)

I wrote that from the laptop in our living room.  Josh was already signed into Channel9 as himself, but since I usually log in from my work computer and it automatically recognizes me, I forgot to check the "Logged in as" at the top of the screen.  I just assumed it was logged in as me.

But I have no idea what Josh's password is ... or anyone else's for that matter. Smiley  It was just a case of sharing the same computer and not checking to see who was logged in.
