I know I really don't post much in the Coffeehouse anymore (been busy), but thought I'd let you all know that I'm leaving the Channel 9 team to go work on the ASP.NET team (starting Monday). Nathan is moving too and going to the same team as me. The project we'll be working on is called "Orchard", which should be no surprise if you know anything about our work on Oxite.

There's a lot we still can't talk about with our project, but I'm sure you'll see us on Channel 9 at some point talking about it. :)

Search Improvements [Search Improvements]

Spent a little time adding some other parameters to the search page (fixed a bug too) and the changes are deployed as of this morning.

You can now narrow your search by:

User
Date range
Content type (just forums or c9 content)

I don't think we're done with search. There's more to be done, but it's a start.

For those interested in web stuff, the new MIX 09 conference site is up as well as the new MIX Online site. The Channel 9 dev team built the new MIX Online site using ASP.NET MVC. Thomas Lewis's team did the design and content for the site.

For those interested, we will be publishing the source code for the site.

Alas, the Channel 9 Dev Team opted out of joining the band in favor of writing some ASP.NET MVC code. We've regretted it every day since. :'(

As I mentioned in the other thread, Charles will be interviewing our team about what we build for Going Deep.

A question about wanting to know what's coming up so you all can ask questions ahead of time has come up a lot (even just recently). So here's your chance. Want to know why performance sucked when we launched? Want to know how we do our ajax? How we're setup to run multiple sites? How our build system works? The web farm? Specificially how we coded something? Ask away!

Charles runs the show, but I'm sure if there's time and you all ask interesting questions, we can go through this thread and fire off answers. Ask away!

Just took a look at the Wikipedia page for C9 again (it's been a while since I checked it out...nice). I was disappointed to see that the "V4" section was just a comment about people not being able to login. Is that really all that Channel 9 is now? Login problems? Most login issues have been fixed.

Anyone want to go in and flesh out the V4 section a bit? Even if it has "since the switch x features are missing" would be fine if things that were gained since the switch too. Just doesn't seem like a very accurate representation of V4.

And hey, if Colbert can ask people to change his Wikipedia page, can't we? :)

We moved all the threads that had disappeared back into the Coffeehouse. If a thread got moved into the Coffeehouse that was supposed to be somewhere else like Tech Off, let me know and I'll move it.

The code is fixed as well (as far as we can tell in dev) so editing the first post in a thread shouldn't make the thread disappear anymore.

I know I'm tooting my own horn here, but I was just replying to a thread and for some reason it timed out, showed me a dialog saying AddComment failed and then re-enabled all the editor controls. I clicked the Add button again and it posted my reply. No duplicates and I didn't lose what I typed and moved on with my day, er...night. Take that old C9! :)

We shipped out latest bug fixes. There are many, but one that might interest many of you is that our EntryList control (the thing that renders out posts [of any type...forum threads, lists of videos, comments, etc]) is now all loaded from the server first, then ajax is used for paging. For mobile phones and devices that don't run javascript the list will now show up and paging is done through the querystring. Pages should "appear" to run faster now. :)

Mobile phone rendering still looks pretty bad, but hey pages come up. We'll get to doing a custom mobile site experience in the future.

This has created one known bug that we'll fix soon (the highlighting when you rollover the "in reply to" area is broken.

Let us know what you think and if you find any bugs. Thanks!

Note: There are still other areas dependent on javascript (most notably the editor) so posting new threads and comments is still dependent on javascript (as well as a few other things throughout the site). This is known and will be addressed later.
