"A: We are definitely thinking about how we effectively detect rootkits and prevent them from getting on users systems, along with other forms of malware, as part of our overall security strategy. This will be an ongoing battle with malicious software authors
much like viruses and spyware are today. Our research group has been doing great work here over the past year in coming up with the strategies and technologies that we can use in future security products to help customers."

Coffeehouse - Roll call - tell us who you are!

A private sole from Pennsylvania that at one time offered his time to help out behind the scenes in a small way as a
www.zone.com support member.

Thankfully it is beyond the 5 year NDA period and I can freely talk about all of the nice folks that spent at minimum of 10 hours each week making the Zone an enjoyable place.

Online gaming is just a lot of fun! It was the game-cheating that drove me away from that arena more than a year ago. (sad day it 'twas for me)

That's as officially affiliated with M.S. as I have gotten to date.

Now, I program in different technologies than are not the mainstay of this Website;however, I am drawn to those that seek to improve themselves. These forums here are just the sort of fertile ground that I tromp in my quest to expand my knowledge
on any given subject.

You can find me cracking a lame joke or in the middle of a deep discussion on various topics over at Indigo Rose's forums (link not supplied to keep the hackles down).

I have experienced so much in life so far and I am excited at where the entire computer related (hardware and software) market segments are heading!

Each thing I learn... is a stepping stone to the next thing I will learn. To me... it's all related eventually, on some level.

That's it for this private sole in Pennsylvania.

Coffeehouse - 20 Million Downloads

W3bbo wrote:

The German mass-media are technology-orientated... there's at least 5 computer or gaming related TV shows on german TV thesedays...

Here in the UK its "zilch", spare for "Thumb Bandits" on C4 at 11pm

..and even then its really poor.

However, SkyOne did a gaming show too, but thats even worse... Part of the show has some guy dressed up similar to the Buddah and calls himself the "Games Guru"... yet does nothing but spout cheat-codes

...Its the people who watch TV shows like this that get wrapped up with aimbots and wallhacks for CounterStrike and spoil the experience for the rest of us...

Then they come on Channel9 with the nick "hello_wtf"

Okay, sorry, I've digressed too much

I know the feeling. I played Medal of Honor - Allied Assault... (sorry in advance for the lack of being humble) I probable was in the top 5 to 10 percent players, as far as game skill goes.

I ran into the cheats a few months into the game, hot and heavy. That really dampened my enjoyment to say the least. I can be very competitive (desk, sorry).

Then I turn on TechTV (when it was TechTV anyway)... and there's a program about Cheating at games! Ack!

So, in the later half of 2003 I decided to put down my nostromo n50 gamepad (teary eyed, I'm ok now, sniff) and put my free time to good use (coding in various languages, for one).

Ironically, I just received HL2 for x-mas and I have played it just one time, for about 11 minutes.

Cheating stinks! (especially when those hacks are used Online, in multiplayer games)

*steps off soapbox, takes deep breath.

Tech Off - Avalon and DirectX-next question.

Tom Servo wrote:

Avalon does UI rendering and interaction, and makes use of DirectX for compositing the UI elements (to the screen). It doesn't replace it. And DirectX won't exactly be replaced, some bigger changes and renaming it to WGF, as far as I know.

Is the name change needed?

There is so much computer jargon as is, is my point and when I need a customer to download DirectX... I do not want to mean WGF and confuse them.

Please rethink renaming products that end-users will need to get. (or think on it some more)

Thank you in advance,
