Let's say that you have an entity class with a few fields defined:

public class Customer
{
    public int Id { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public string Address { get; set; }
    public string City { get; set; }
    // ... more fields, etc.
}

When I bind a collection of those to an ASP.NET control like a GridView or a DataList, the ASP.NET designer pulls the fields from the ObjectDataSource's SelectMethod just fine, but it generates them in a seemingly random order so my markup looks like this:

<asp:GridView runat="server" ... >
    <Fields>
        <asp:BoundField DataField="City" ... />
        <asp:BoundField DataField="Name" ... />
        <asp:BoundField DataField="Address" ... />
        <asp:BoundField DataField="Id" ... />
    </Fields>
</asp:GridView>

Is there an attribute I can set on these fields so that .NET will know which order I intend them to show up when I data bind them?

The weird thing about this is if I do it with reflection, I get them in the right order if I use Type.GetMembers and Predicate<T>:

Type type = typeof(Customer);
List<MemberInfo> whatIGet = new List<MemberInfo>(type.GetMembers(BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance | BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly));
List<MemberInfo> whatIWanted = whatIGet.FindAll(delegate(MemberInfo m)
    {
        return m.MemberType != MemberTypes.Constructor && m.MemberType != MemberTypes.Method;
    }
);

I would like to avoid writing a Visual Studio 2005 macro to do this if possible.

in reply to ObjectDataSource data binding and field ordering for custom classes

<evnet:views>3364</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/256171/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
Well, hmm, I've been trying to answer lots of questions here so I thought I would go ahead and post a question of my own.
