So I got up at 6am to get my copy of Modern Warfare 2 at 7am (damn you Sainsburys and your cheap cheap (£26!) prices but late late morning opening times).

Already on Level 2 and really enjoying it.

Anyone else got it this morning and rocking it?

Nothing to do with Big Brother the TV series.

How is your development department structured? Do you have developers, senior developers and team leaders much like we do?

When does a developer talk to a senior and a senior to a team leader? when does a developer talk to a team leader? if you have a question about something how do you deal with it. google it for a while, ask someone in the department, sit on your ass?

I woud love to hear your insights.

Following a discussion in work.

Whats your opinion on being able to drag columns, and order columns, in web pages (also windows applications from explorer to err well whatever) using things like javascript and err oracle forms.

Do you think that it's a little used feature, or even that if the feature is included it means it was poorly designed in the first place.

Undecided between Techoff and here.

My laptop came with Vista Home Premium and now has 7 Ultimate on there, both come with Windows Media Center. However, when i try and use my 360 has an WMC extender over wifi (using a squeezebox as the wifi aerial) it kills my wifi and internet, requiring me to hard reboot my router and modem.

Some details about my setup:

Laptop running Win 7 Ultimate Intel WiFi 5100 AGN

Xbox 360 using a slim devices (logitech) Squeezebox 3 as the wifi aerial

Belkin 54g cable router

So whats going wrong?

Whats a good salary to live reasonably comfortably in london for 2 people, 1 who would be working, the other not working for at least a few weeks (or till a job found) and unable to claim benefits of any sort?

hey all

Our organization is planning a language change and moving to .net. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good ASP.Net based training courses operating that would cater to people building large scale systems for world use.

It would be better if these training centers operated in the UK, but if they operate outside and provide exceptional teaching i would be greatful to hear from you.

Also, if an organisation is planning on moving from tech X to an MS supplied tech (we're talking about moving everything to an MS supplied solution), do MS offer such courses or the the ability to come to Reading and talk to dev teams and such...?

Am i the only one here who is seeing a slight conflict of interest in the thumbnail preview and inprivate browsing.

Do you think that when inprivate browsing is activated, the thumbnail preview should be deactivated and the only way to jump there would be via alt/win+tab?

Hey all

So US Immigration let me and my girlfriend into the country and we're now chilling west side for the next 14 days or so.

At the moment i'm in monterey and have already been whale watching and checked out disneyland cali. Will be in San Francisco tomorrow. This is my first visit to the west coast and so far i'm loving every minute of it.

If anyone has any recomendations on good places to eat and shop, please let me know.

So who is gonna (try to) go to the world cup in 2010. Tickets are of Sale/Offer/Ballot today. $900 for good seats at the final, if only the £were stronger against the dollar.

I'd love to go myself though SA is a bloody scary place, my friend did her DR elective over there and was seeing a lot of gunshots and such a night (far from the safety of wales, though chippy lane on a friday..).

So the company I am working for is closing it's UK office (it's biggest office) and creating 3 new offices around the world. One will be in Amsterdam one in Maryland and the thrd in Singapore.

They seemed to let slip that most of ICT (my dept) will be moving to Singapore, however there is the chance to work anywhere.

out of interest where would you work, have you worked in any of those locations how did you find it?

Hi all

Updated my Windows XP box to IE8 RC1 and i am finding that opening a new tab can take anywhere from a few (10 say) seconds to a minute which is quite frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this on Windows XP Sp3.

Beta 2 was much much faster on my machine and nothing else has changed.

With the launch of a raft of new tools to help build and design RIA, what are you choosing to be cross compatible with the 3 major systems, Windows, Mac and Linux (I don't want a debate on how major these are).

You want to build a tool that users can use offline and online, data can easily be sent to and from and can easiy be built and maintained.

Have we actually got to this cross platform utopia and what are others using for it.

So at work we've been doing scrum and sprints for the last few months. We now have a system of documenting our sprints using excel.

The basic's of which is an excel spreadsheet containing columns of a sprint item number, a product backlog number (if relevant), the status and team member doing it and the amount of hours it has left to complete.

it's fairly basic but works pretty well, though i'm notw thinking it needs some linking so that items bought in from previous sprints can be easily referenced. eg. some dev work needs to be done and the analysys was done in the previous sprint.

so how are you doing and documenting your sprints? whats the best method you've seen and the worst.

So it's upgrade time for my PC, and i'm piecing together my PC.

Is anyone in the same position as me and are you gonna bother with going quad core or stick with a highspeed E8500 Dual Core?

At the moment it's a toss up between the E8500 and the Q9450. This will be my gaming/Dev rig so it's gonna be fast.

So the UK festival season is nearly upon us.

Glasto is selling tickets on sunday and most other festivals are already selling their tickets.

So who is going to what. I shall be at Bestival and 02 Wireless Saturday.

I think i shall skip Glasto this year, the crowds really do make it hard work and if it pours down again like last year it does become unenjoyable

Well what a year it's been. sure it's not quite over yet, but by now everyone is going to be with their loved ones and eating turkey and not really caring about stuff so lets wrap the year up on 22nd Dec 2007.

My question today is... What lessons does Microsoft need to learn from this year to take forward into the new year. In some ways it's been a roller coaster year for Microsoft, but what do they need to take away from the highs and lows?

OK... really who has left the idiots in charge at Microsoft. Did someone in microsoft see the news recently about a chimp controlling a pair of robotic legs using it's mind and think "if chimps can do that then why not let them run microsoft".

I don't understand, i really don't understand. What was the thinking, was there any. Microsoft has gone downhill in my mind. The Zune kerfuffle, the IE kerfuffle, the Ultimate Extras kerfuffle...
