    Well, the run time still can make type checking. What I mean is that the compiler should just infer the type of s from what its value type is, without writing extra keywords. This can be done while maintaining the type checking.

    if (someCondition)
    {
       s = new string();
    } else {
       s = new int32();
    }

    //what type is s here?

    Variant types like this are prone to misuse, bad for optimization and code analysis and just plain ugly.

    s would be dependant on the condition. Initially s would be an object type and then its assigned to a string if someCondition is true, or if false would be assigned to a number.

    This is present in other programming languages too, so its not a new thing.

    You are missing the point here.  If I had code outside of the condition there would be no way to know what methods are avaible to s, meaning I would constantly have to use if conditions to determine the type of a variable before calling any methods on it.  Not that there aren't any benefits to this strategy but please leave C# alone and use javascript or another intepreted language.

    Let me rephrase it – I am currently not aware of any other (beside WPF) widget toolkit (including Swing, SWT, Qt, GTK+, wxWidgets, motif) that allows you to rotate button and then stick it on a flying cube.

    WPF is great, WPF/E is a total joke.  Unfortunately all the cool things we can do with that amazing technology require a 30 meg download, and the 2 meg version is like using flash 1.0

    RoyalSchrubber wrote: You obviously haven't heard of WPF (and whole .net 3.0) thingy. And yes it's about 45.18 times better than anything that has Linux. X server basically does not allow any useful extensions and XGL/AIGLX/Compiz is going 100% in wrong direction with design, coz it really is not extending X Server in any useful way besides window animations.
    So her you havit - http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=170670

    45.18x is a big number considering that Java SE 6 is out and in the process of becoming open-source. Please don't forget about WPF and WPF/E alternatives being made for Java SE/EE, along with the improvements Adobe is making in their Flashplayer to rival WPF/E.

    GNU/Linux probably won't recieve a full WPF implementation until Mono reaches a certain maturity. This is a problem with Microsoft not making their technology portable more than anything else.

    I see WPF/E coming much sooner though. Perhaps some hackers will reverse engineer the Mac OS X version and adapt it to Linux. Maybe Microsoft will open the specifications for it, so reverse engineering won't be needed? Wishful thinking.

    XGL, AIGLX, and Compiz are basically temporary hacks to a compositing desktop and hardware accelerated X-server.

    Compiz shouldn't be needed once Gnome 2.18 and KDE 4.0 are released. Their window managers will already have compositing features and support for effects via plugins.

    XGL or AIGLX arn't needed when using NVIDIA's proprietary video drivers; I assume ATI/AMD will follow in near future driver updates. AIGLX will still be used with the open-source ATI and Intel video drivers.

    X.Org 7.3 is getting improvements in areas that matter most. Such as hotplugging support with projectors, TVs, monitors, and graphics cards.

    Please don't bring up java when we are having serious conversations about software.  Seriously.

    From your posts I can easily conclude the following:
    - You never built a search engine
    - You talk like a kid
    - Saying your name over and over again wont make you a grown up
    - You didn't finish college yet.

    lol, you expose your own ignorance little man. ROTFL !!!
    Hint:  Read Atlas Shrugged dude

    So naming yourself after a fictional character is supposed to give you credibility?

    CannotResolveSymbol is criticizing my name...wow...I guess your moniker clearly states who you are.  Did'nt I shut you up 7 posts ago?  Were'nt you ignoring me?  I suggest you continue with your strategy of insulting people who don't bite back; lest I make you cry again.
    'you're being rude.';'this thread should be shut down'; 'I'm not going to respond to you anymore'
    Play your position so i dont have to put you in your place ace.

    I didn't answer the stable question because I didn't know the answer.  It didn't have anything to do with my post.  You are simply trying to undermine my credibility with name calling.  I will not be spending any more time responding to your questions, because I will not respond to what is clearly flamebait.  I have better things to do with my time on a Wednesday afternoon.

    1) So by your logic one can say mean spirited things and as long as a tongue and cheek Icon is present it's cool. okay.  You're a freaking Jerk Tongue Out

    2) Its his thread dumbass.  You get off it.
    3) You did say it, the posts dont lie.
    4)  Its not the main statement, but the one after that. You are addressing the general thread in mockery of him.  'He won't even know what i'm talking about'  Turns out you didnt know what you were talking about either,  and If didn't call you on it you'd probably be sitting there thinking you're somethin'.

    The simple fact is that you saw a thread where you thought you could get some licks in on someone and get a big laugh out of it and I spoiled it for you cuz I was not about to let that guy just get slammed by everyone.  Just admit it.

    I agree that what has been said may appear to have been excessive but this continently isn't the first thread we have had from SpectateSwamp PIMPing his software.

    People started explaining why his software is irrelevant, he ignored and continued PIMPing. This obviously pissed people off that this guy is so narrow minded that he can see that his love child is horrible.

    Okay, but it's HIS post.  He started it.  It's not like we were all in here trying to solve world hunger and He jumped in to the conversation PIMPing his software.  There's all sorts of people on Channel 9 I dont agree with but I dont go around looking for their threads so I can tell them how dumb they are.  I entered because I was interested to know what he's talking about and I haven't even had a chance to cuz I have to fish through everyone insulting him.  maybe it's stupid but believe me when I tell you a lot of good software has come out of not so good implementations through refactoring and remediation.  It sounds to me like that's why it's set up as open source, so others can take the conceptual idea and evolve it.  Dont like the cryptic UI,>.  Build on and republish it.  Think the code sucks or wont work on Vista, rewrite it in .NET or Java.  This is a COMMUNITY.  We should be working together not making fun of each other.

    If you had done your research on the correct person (SpectateSwamp not PaoloM), you would have found out that this guy consistently posts on lots of forums PIMPing his own search engine. If you kept looking you would find that everyone believes it is useless to everyone but SpectateSwamp.

    If you had done as described above you would then understand why no one is taking SpectateSwamp seriously.
