Nothing new. One guy ported a SNES emulator to ActiveX so it would be hosted within the IE shell within MCE2005. I don't know if anyone's done it for the new MCE in Vista/7 which has a 'native' extension system but I'd like to see it.
I beleive its also been done in javascript.

I like evernote.
It will sync notes between PC's and you can upload from iphone, android and windows mobile
You can install it on a thumb drive as well.
If you dont have the thumb drive with you and cant install it where you are, you can always use the web interface.

My favourite javascript debugging tool is the firebug extension for firefox.
There is no decent IE alternative.

My mac plays WMV and WMA files just fine.
Always has...

If developed correctly "Web 2.0" as you put it can support.
- Bookmarks
- Search Engines
- Printing
- Useability
- Download times
- Back Button
- Refresh Button
- Hot Keys
- Accessibility
Your confusing "Web 2.0" with "Bad Code" or "Lousy Developers" -
