I really don't see how this is better than a netbook, or affordable. But I can think of a billion ways how a netbook is better.
A netbook is basically a cheap version of a notebook, it doesn't do anything better.
Crappy small screens, and slow slow slow.....that's my experience.
It's all about the form factor, a lightweight tablet makes it very comfortable to use the net and do everyday basic activities.

watching the keynote now...
my thoughts:
a) I love my iTouch and something that takes it and gives me a bigger screen i'm listening if your selling it
b) all the great apps are enhanced
c) better than a netbook and still affordable
usage:
1. wake up in the morning pick up the iPad, read your newspaper on the New York Times app
2. on the train/bus to work use 3G with the big screen and surf the web/check your mail right in your hands
3. listen to your music in the background
4. Watch movies on a big screen instead of the relatively small iphone sceen
5. Watch Youtube in HD / MLB TV
6. Read books, great e-book reader, buy books straight to the device

I was thinking you could check the log file, or do a no-gui boot and see what file it freezes at..

Well, if you want super-duper snappy, try installing Windows 3.1 ... you won't be able to do much, but it will be fast.

Seemed quite blocky here -- on 1.5 (ish) megabit -- OK for talking heads, but not so good for screencasts where I'd want to be able to read the text. Didn't seem to get less blocky over time. Will try again this evening.
Herbie
Looks great here...

This is pretty ironic, I finally picked up Windows 7 (Ultimate 64-bit) for my main machine that I orginally bought loaded with Windows Vista Ultimate...and after 48 hours I had the urge to come on here and post: "Thanks for making using my PC a pleasure again".
I don't know if anyone can ever satisfy what your looking for jamie, a lot of it is just fluff.
I lol'd particularly at your "everything is super snappy" comment, DUDE if you don't think Windows 7 is more snappy, open multiple applications in XP and see how it compares to Windows 7.

While I agree entirely with you, La Bomba, it's Jeff Sandquist who is the great man.

I stand corrected, Sandquist is king!

How about the upgrade to enable 802.11n on hardware that was already in the machine, that really took the cake in my opinion; it was a while back but just shows how much apple is in to offer it's user base any type of value-adds.
It's always something slighty newer and give me more money to see it.
Fcuk apple, they make quality products but don't show much in terms of loyalty to their user base.
