A week or so ago I sent Ray Ozzie an email prodding him about when he would be finally appearing on Channel 9...

I didn't get a response from him directly but his assistant did respond, he basically said sometime in advance of Mix was a possibility; but not this calendar year (Mix is in March '08).

So they haven't forgotten...he also asked about what subject matter we be of most interest to us?

How about those unanswered Vista questions...if Charles still has a copy? :D

Try it yourself. Without the quotation marks: Con

Doesn't work, just retains the old name if you are renaming, or it will go to the default New Folder if you creating a new folder.

Apparently no one knows why this is...even Microsoft.

PS. Can somebody try it in Vista? Maybe it's fixed..

Rumor: Zune to Pay You For Sharing Songs?

The Microsoft Zune may pay you for sharing a song with others if they end up buying that song themselves.

As you probably know, the Zune's WiFi capability will let you send a song to another Zune user, and then that user can listen to it three times for free within three days, after which a prompt appears asking for $1 to buy it.

As the rumor goes, Microsoft will give you an unspecified number of credits for passing along that song that was later bought. Then, you can redeem those credits for free music or anything else from the Zune Marketplace.

Interesting possibilities here, I also wonder if you would be able to transfer music wirelessly to your 360 from the Zune? Perhaps a future extender kit?

In an interview with The New York Times, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer discussed the naming of Microsoft's Xbox and Zune products:

"When it came time to name Xbox, there was certainly a class of people who wanted to have Microsoft and/or Windows more prominent. They all lost. And it was a wise choice. Not because Microsoft is bad. But it wouldn't have meant what it needed to mean to that audience. And Zune could have been Microsoft music system or Microsoft entertainment system or Xpod, I guess. But again, we thought the experience was different and it was worth giving its own identity."

Well of course ya didn't name it the Xpod, ya big silly! We'd expect it to play games if you had named it that, and Zune has no capability in the games department. (Looks like Apple beat you to the whole Xpod thing, anyway.)

Sony lacks a community man, a public personality who is more than just a mouth. Sony lacks a Major Nelson.

Microsoft's Larry Hryb has emerged as a personality capable of transforming the Xbox image from a cold, black box into a lively community of gamers, both hardcore and casual. What's more, he's built his celebrity on trust, successfully balancing his employer's expectations with honest commentary produced for the consumer's sake. In other words, he's likeable -- and he's selling the brand. Does Sony need that guy to succeed?

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal predicted big changes in the Bronx, and it seems he was right on the money.

New York Yankees manager Joe Torre likely will be fired and replaced by Lou Piniella following another early exit from the baseball playoffs, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.
According to sources the Daily News did not identify, Torre is expected to be fired unless he resigns first - or team officials can talk owner George Steinbrenner out of making the move.

On Saturday, the Yankees were eliminated from the first round of the American League playoffs, losing to Detroit 8-3 in Game 4. It was the second straight year New York lost in the opening round.

The Yankees have won the World Series four times under Torre, most recently in 2000. They had a record $200 million payroll this year and matched the New York Mets for the best record in the regular season.

The Yankees have made the playoffs in all 11 years that Torre has been their manager. They have won nine straight AL East titles.

Torre, 66, has one year and $7 million left on his contract.

Piniella, 63, is a former Yankees star and managed them in 1986-87 and for most of 1988. He guided Cincinnati to the 1990 World Series title and later managed Seattle and Tampa Bay.

Microsoft has teamed up with PC vendors to promote the delayed Vista OS by offering PC buyers worldwide a free upgrade coupon, as a way of encouraging them to buy a Vista-capable PC as early as possible, according to market sources, citing information leaked from Taiwan-based PC makers.

With the coupon offer to kick off in October, prospective buyers who have planned to purchase a Vista-enabled PC in the first quarter of 2007 when the new OS is launched, will be encouraged to take up a Vista-capable PC in advance, the sources asserted.

Ray Chen, president of Compal Electronics, confirmed the coupon offer at a company investor conference held yesterday, stating that the free upgrade coupon, together with the availability of Intel's 64-bit-enabled Merom processors, will help boost demand for new PCs in the fourth quarter of this year as well as in the first quarter of 2007.

Microsoft actually reached such an agreement with PC vendors in July, but decided not to unveil the plan until the fourth quarter, so as not to affect PC sales in the third quarter, the source noted.

The leak of the coupon-offering plan indicates that Microsoft may launch the Vista OS in January 2007, in line with its revised schedule, the sources said. However, PC sales worldwide now might now be affected by the plan, they cautioned.
