Upperline in the Garden District is another good choice.

I've never been to Elizabeth's in the Bywater, but I've heard very good things, especially about their brunch.

TechEd North America - Will a MS Store be set up to hopefully sell discounted Surface Pros?

I'm sure there will be a conference store, but I wouldn't hold my breath on discounts. In the past they have had mice, webcams, keyboards, etc. at discounted prices, but nothing earth-shattering.

I have a Surface Pro and I'm very happy with it. it does get warm and I wish the battery life was better, but it is the device I keep coming back to when I test others.

If you're a customer of a TechEd sponsor or exhibitor, ask your sales rep if they are having any customer receptions or parties during TechEd. Or stop by the booth and ask. The worst thing they can say is no.

If you work with Exchange or Lync, Jeff Guillet coordinates a UC Roundtable event which gives you a chance to chat with people from the product teams and your peers (and usually have some food and drinks too). That will show up on the calendar that Shane referenced.

They key for me is that I have to have a device I can use to RDP back to work in case something needs fixing during the day. It doesn't happen very often, but I have had to duck out of a session before to fix something back home. I brought my Surface Pro with me to MMS this week and it worked out great aside from the battery life. I was able to get a charge at some point during the day, so I was never completely dead. If MetroTwit wasn't such a dog on RT, I'd bring that instead.

If all someone has is a traditional laptop, I'd definitely leave that at the hotel. Just not worth lugging around.

I know many of us are already there, but for those people who haven't dipped their toes into the waters of Twitter yet, give it a try. Sign-up, grab a mobile app, and get familiar with it for TechEd. Being tied in is useful during the conference because a lot of information is communicated during the event over Twitter. It doesn't mean you won't hear about it via other means, but Twitter is where it hits first. Follow hashtags like #msteched, #techedfun, and #thekrewe (if you're so inclined) to keep up.

@Harjit:I usually bring a small duffel bag that collapses. When I leave, I cram that full of laundry and any soft swag, lock, it and check it. I always fly SW though, so checked bags are free. Convention shipping center is a good option for heavy stuff like books.

@Vecna:I beg to differ. Nothing wrong with the shuttle services, I use them in most every city I fly to. For TechEd. though, the lines can be really long. If you were able to get a shuttle quickly in 2010, that's great, but you're the first person I know who had a good shuttle experience that year. Now. whenever I go to NO, I always get a cab.

There are some great restaurants not all that far from the convention center. Cochon, Cochon Butcher, Capdeville, American Sector, Domenica. problem is there are so many good places. Just depends what kind of food you're looking for.

It depends where you plan on going. I've used the RTA before and it has been fine although the streetcars late at night can be few and far between. Unless you're venturing north and west, the streetcars probably won't be of much use. Also depends where your hotel is form the nearest line. Cabs are your best bet if you want to get from point A to point B and you don't have the luxury of waiting around.
