  • What is a reasonable price for Longhorn

I'm a subscriber to free software magazine from the UK, and in the last issue they talk about bringing KDE to windows, and porting the window managers we like so much on linux to windows, perhaps even gnome too.

I like this idea. They've ported BlackBox to Windows and it makes a great replacement shell. It's no Fluxbox, but it's a start.

I think KDE is a little too close to Windows though, Gnome or Elightenment would be cool.

I plan on asking them for iCon: The biography of Steve Jobs. Wink

very funny. Still, you can't get around the fact that X-Box doesn't have squat for exclusive games like nintendo and playstation.
On PS2 you have all the xbox games plus exclusive games that are super popular, then on nintendo it's the same, you get all the xbox games plus the mario games. xbox seems like the lowest common denominator console. I

LCD like Fable, Doom3, and Half-Life 2? Or Halo1/2? Smiley

I now have a converter which I stated in my last post and I can hook up a linux laptop running Doom3 or HL2 to my big screen RCA in higher resolution than any game console, so that is not attractive to me for that aspect.

Transactional support, I as writing my post while you were writing yours. Wink In my case, I would have had to buy a new video card, faster processor, and more RAM in either case (LInux or Windows). Are you using WineX? errr. Whatever they are calling it now?

I want to continue the FF series, I don't want to switch to another RPG. I have completed all the FF series from 7 on, except 11 which was networked for PS and windows.

Have you installed an emulator like SNEX9x and played any of the older FF games? I'm playing through 1 on my GBA during my morning commutes and lunches and having a blast. low-res graphics and all.

That was the main reason I purchased an Xbox, I was fine with my Gamecube until I found out that Doom3 and HL2 were coming to the Xbox. Then I did the math.

  • C9Park: Bye Lenn! (Parts 1, 2 + 3)

OK so here's the only thing I see wrong with the C9 park series, but I'm not sure that you could have gotten it right unless you live in Seattle and go to the geek dinners. Wink

I dont' think I've ever seen Robert in a button down shirt. I heard a rumor once that he wore a SUIT when he gave a talk at a conference. But the man LIVES in geek sloganized t-shirts. It reminds me of the story that people tell of Donald Trump. At one time Trump was given a lifetime card for McDonalds and he says that it meant a lot to him because it meant no matter how low he sunk, he would never starve. So he had one of his basic needs taken care of for life.

That's Robert, he's gotten so many free t-shirts he'll never be naked as long as he lives. You can't help in if you live in the geek world. Especially at Microsoft. Heck I drove past there the other day and I think I wound up with 3 MSDN and an O'Reilly t-shirt.. You should put him in his "I'm blogging this" t-shirt. Either that or one with a 9-guy on the front. hehe His glasses are square too. I'm a little disturbed that I know this much about him.

Great, I forgot that I was logged in with my original account here at home. Now 1/2 my posts will be with my Lazycoder2 account and the rest with this account. I don't have multiple personalities..shut up yes we do..no we don't I'm telling mom.

    OK, that was dumb.

. All I care about is the next final fantasy, and I know i won't be able to get it on Xbox, so I'm getting PS3.

Ahhh, but the creator of FF has decided to write a NEW RPG series,  at least 2 of which will be exclusive to Xbox...errr...next/360. So while you won't get FF, you'll get the next thing from the guy who made it. I'm pretty stoked about that. I'm not sure if it's enough to make me want to buy an Xbox 2 over a PS3 but it did pique my interest. The only reason I bought an Xbox was for Doom3 and Half-Life 2. Doom3 is out and HL2 is coming this summer. Saved me about $500 worth of upgrades to my home machine.

But I think Seattle likes this topic.

We may need a poll how many Ichiro will hits this season...
    Place your bets!

I think he'll beat it by 3. The problem is the teams he has left to hit against this season are actually playing for something, so they've been walking him a lot.

Yeah, where were you folk back during IE and IIS development at Microsoft? Wink

  • Odds of .Net CF coming to Palm?

Anyone want to weigh in on the odds of the Compact Framework coming to the Palm OS? It's a fragile pipe dream I've had for quite some time now. I'm sure I'll never see it happen, but humor me.

How many "applications" exist for the Palm when you exclude HanDBase "applications"?

Since HanDBase also has a Pocket PC version, then "thousands" of "applications" exist for the Pocket PC too...

    J

That's like saying "How many applications exist if you exclude the ones written in C?".

I'm just going by what I see at Handango.com which also has thousands of applications for the PocketPC and Symbian platforms. Whatever API/Framework they are based on, they exist.

I hadn't ever heard of HanDBase before you mentioned it in your reply. That's cool and saves me having to install SuperWaba or the deal with MDIP. Although the "DBase" gives me the shivers. brrrrrrr Smiley
