"EEEEEH! The price is wrong ..."

Whenever your browser has issues with new windows, it is either connected to 1.) A popup blocker (probably the crappy MSN) 2.) A toolbar 3.) SPYWARE (always the first) 4.) Viruses

Seriously, dont say it isnt spyware because in 90% of all cases it is, and im a 112% positive that its spyware in your case.

Back when I did tech support for a small company here everyone that had problems with Internet Explorer were infected by some sort of spyware; so use SpyBot to get rid of it.
No joke.

Did you not listen to the thread creator? It ISN'T spyware, that has already been accounted for.

It happened after he installed patches, and has occured to multiple people. There must be a bug in the way Windows Updates distributed it, or an install problem on their machines, or an invalid certificate, or any number of other reasons. Heck, those people
might not have restarted their machines after applying updates (I've had problems after not restarting my computer after applying updates, even though I had shutdown it).

It isn't always spyware, especially when a spyware scan has been done.
I know that, that's why I put a slash between them rather than say just one of them. Anyway if you have Autorun/Autoplay disabled to beat the DRM you have to have it
enabled. This thread isn't about disabling Autorun, it is about beating DRM, and for some reason or another, the CD needs autorun enabled, and the shift key held down upon loading it.

I know the shift key stops Autorun, but I want to know is why the CD gets tricked into thinking it is in a normal Optical Drive (not in a computer one) then reveals the music. Or does the computer choose to find the audio files itself?

I tried it on Coldplay's X&Y (their latest CD) and it worked. Details
here. Just because it is the oldest trick in the book doesn't mean it won't work. If you can find the version number of the DRM used on that CD you could search for cracks for that version of DRM.
DRM forces people to crack and download,

Coffeehouse - Shift key beats CD DRM? :|

I've heard a few rumours about holding down the shift key, while a DRM Protected CD is loading, that supposedly beats the CD's DRM. Well I thought that doing that was to stop Autorun loading the DRM's Player automatically so I could see the files inside
but it actually did beat the DRM

The first time I loaded the CD into a CD Drive it was on a computer with autoplay/autorun disabled completely, which allowed me to check out the data files inside, finding no music files in it I took it out and that was that.

After researching Anti-DRM techniques I thought I would try to crack it so I could load some of the files on to my MP3 Player. I loaded it on to a computer with Autorun enabled and to stop autorun I held down the shift key, the CD started skipping at regular
2 second intervals so I stopped holding the shift key and I went opened D Drive and to my surprise I found cda files for all 13 Tracks rather than data files. Obviously I ripped them and now they reside on my MP3 Player.

My theory for this is that the CD checks if it is loaded in a computer's CD Drive, if so it shows data files but if not it shows Audio files. Frankly I don't know how it does this but I know that data files can't play in normal CD Players, or at least not in
the ones I've loaded this CD into.

Instructions: Switch autorun/autoplay on for the Optical Drive you are going to load the CD into (by default autorun/autoplay is on so if you haven't maually turned it off, you should be fine). Load the DRM enabled CD into that Optical Drive. When
it starts making a whirring noise hold down the shift key, if it starts skipping this is a good sign. After a short while of it skipping you can let go of the shift key, you can now open the drive you loaded the CD into and you should find cda files that you
can rip using your favourite ripping program.

EDIT: The CD I did this on was Coldplay's X&Y.

Does anyone else have strange DRM experiences like this one?

Coffeehouse - Linus Torvald: "You're a F***ing Idiot"

Not everyone who might use Linux realizes this though. Sure everyone who has used it for any length of time does but there are lots of people who don't. For example my brother thinks that Linus coded Gnu/Linux almost entirely by himself, he thinks that
he made the kernel, bash, grep, make, etc. (Not that he knows what any of those are). He is not alone in this idea, there are quite a few people who think like this. Linus saying KDE is better then GNOME doesn't affect anyone who uses it but it will effect
people who may switch to Linux and hear about Linuses opinion.

I've used Linux and I thought that Linus made everything about Linux and was quite suprised to hear him complaining about something which I thought he created, or at least, something created on the platform he created. I thought he'd be too busy dumping on
Bill Gates to dump on his own side, but I guess it is like what Beer28 said, he isn't the leader of the Linux Army.

But if Linus isn't the leader of Linux does that mean that there isn't a leader? Someone who is in the same position to Linux that Bill Gates is to Windows. Is there no one in the Linux world like that? Maybe that's another reason why Linux can't kick the butt
of Windows... It's because Linux is a leaderless rabble of geese compared to Bill Gate's giant Microsoft Army of Windows.

Back to the main topic on hand, Steve Ballmer might have thrown a chair and swore, but Linus
definitely swore which is worse than speculation.

Coffeehouse - Thoughts on Microsoft Branding & Meme's

The sphere Windows logo looks shizen. I've liked the multicoloured waving flag look so far and I don't think it should change so drastically.

The original crevice-in-the-ground XBox logo is much better than the XBox 360 sphere, the XBox 360 only got a sphere logo because of its name.

The only sphere there that looks semi ok is the Office sphere, but that's because it doesn't follow the dodgy 'X' canyon look that the other two do. If Windows is becoming a sphere it should at least keep some of it's waving flag style, not adopt the XBox 360
look.

Oh and thanks for pointing out how dodgy the Microsoft branding scheme can get, I've always considered the Microsoft logo to be the "s" cutting in to the "o" logo, but haven't taken the time to notice that it isn't always so.
