Why on earth does it open a metro app when I'm on the desktop? This switching between 2 separate worlds all the time sucks and is completely annoying.

But the real pain is the ugly broken font rendering of Windows 8. After using it a few minutes I'm getting headache and I have the feeling that my head explodes. This IE9/10 font rendering is mayhem Crying Crying Crying

Speed is fine, but usability of Windows 8 sucks completely. Like others already pointed out, the permanent switching between Metro and desktop world sucks. Opening a png in explorer switches you to metro and it takes 6-7s to open a simple PNG with the photo metro app. 1 word: nightmare

If I could disable Metro completely I would preorder Win8 today.

yes, all new functions are looked and require a special domain + special tool(DLL) to unlock it. So wait for the official Beta and the documentation at BUILD.

@MagicAndre1981: What monitor are you using? Even on my 10 year-old CRT things look fine.

I'm using a LG 23" Full HD LED TFT. I've used the GDI ClearType in Windows for 10 years and it is brilliant, but this Direct2D/Write and WPF ClearType is horrible. Viewing this Direct2D/Write and WPF ClearType programs feels like this:

no, I can open 2 programs (1 GDI and 1 with Direct2D or WPF) and if I look at the Direct2D/WPF rendering I get the headache. Switching to the GDI Windows stops it. If I switch back to the WPF/Direct2D Windows the headache is back. Before the font update I also had burning eyes after a few seconds watching at a WPF/Direct2D Window. For example I can see in VS2010 which parts are WPF and which are GDI. Everytime my eyes burn I know that I see a Window which is coded with WPF.

Ms listens to it and implemented some requests in Windows 8. So if enough people request the same feature you may get it in Windows 8.

For virtual Desktops, use Desktops.exe from Sysinternals or Dexpot which are both free to use in private usage.
