  No streaming for me, I'm on a 1.5mbps DSL connection.

  I've been downloading videos for years but for the last month or so, it been getting worse and now impossible. I am not having this problem with other sites ie. silvewrlight.net.

  I appreciate the help, but for me it comes up short.

   

  It seems to me that Microsoft would want to help everyone to develop silverlight application, even those that are currently desk top developers. Silverlight trainer often assume  that everyone watching already knows ASP.net. It not true!  This is very much like teaching your child to dive without first teaching them how to get back to shore.

   

  Do we need to learn all of ASP.net to develop SL apps? No, but there aren't any books called "Just the ASP.net you need to know for Silverlight Pro"

  Off topic a little

  The following is mostly egnorance and only a little stupidity.

  If my SL site is hosted by HostingX.com how do I turn on basic auth?

  Here it was done in IIS manager, I don't have that kind of access on a hosted site. (do I ?)

   

  messaging cross many areas of expertise. Set up/purchase access to the server with the framwork , write the code, deploy the matching software framework 3.X, It would be very helpfull to see ALL the step necessary to make a SL.X site wrok with these videos.

  Am I thinking right? I can ues the HttpWebRequest/Response APIs to send a querry to the server,  run the querry over a large XML file on the server and returns just the xml nodes I wish to display/manupulte on the client.  A poor mans data base call? Is there anything really wrong with doing this?

  Mike's Videos are always very helpful for people like myself - self taught and still learning.

  • He always starts at the beginning - assuming I know little.
  • He remembers what it is like to "not know" and answers the question I have before I ask them
  • the pace is just right and the level of detail is right on
  • Best of all - he uses USABLE examples

   There are many good programmers but few good teachers
