I was listening to the weekly StackOverflow podcast, and they mentioned devs had a sort of a contest to see who can write the best Battleship ("you sank my battleship") AI... which lead me to think... hmmm.... a Battleship AI contest server -- where people can upload their AI DLL -- wouldn't be hard to write...

Although, I'm not sure if I could prevent people from writing

while (true);

and hang the server...

Or if their routine takes a real long time to execute...

Can you detect this by reflection? Or at least at runtime?

How would you attempt to?

Anyone else experience this?

I couldn't access the site at all around 5pm EST... Irregardless of how many times I hit F5...

Right now... about 50% of my F5 takes a really long time

(wonder if this even posts)

"Universal healthcare" is kinda a big issue these days in the states...

From what I can hear, there are a few models for Universal Healthcare

1) the UK model

2) the French model

3) the Canadian model..

there's one more that I forgot...

Are you covered under Universal Healthcare?

How do you like it?

I've heard the Canadian model isn't very good... as they cut back on specialists... and you gotta wait a long time if you have a unique condition

I'm trying to set up my Windows Homeserver (Acer AspireHome H340)... and the out-of-the-box experience is horrific...

I've spent 90 minutes on it already... The connector software seems to found "aspirehome" (the DHCP name) but when trying to go on to the next step... some sort of percentage progess... It freezes at 0%

OK... After 90 minutes I think I figure it out...

My router says "aspirehome" is at 192.168.2.2

but when I ping "aspirehome" it says...

> Pinging aspirehome.futurama [24.28.193.9]

"futurama" is my router domain name that gets tacked on...

I ran the trouble shooter software and it says something about Dynamic DNS... which I look in my router pages for... no avail...

I had to put an entry into "hosts" to force "aspirehome" to resolve to 192.168.2.2

And the connector software seems to be installing...

BUT... this is a piece of consumer hardware + software?

And what happen when I remove the hosts entry?

Wow! Amazing! Acer? MS? Who's to blame?

I'm starting my first serious ASP.NET 2.0 project and found that it's not creating a {Site}\bin\MyProj.dll file and that it requires the .cs files...

This is cool and all, but I'm not comfortable putting source code out there...

I read that there's a pre-compile util, but that needs to be ran on the production server... and you still need the .cs files...

Is there a way to build the ASP.NET 2.0 project like how VS2003 did it?

With the bin DLL?

and it's been 15 minutes already sitting through the VS "Installing Components" dialog while it's "Generating setup script"...

On the other hand, that is a very attractive woman. I wonder how MS know my taste...

My "PC" broke (RAM) so I have to use my Mac Mini for the time being... And I noticed a few things:

* My office is now SO quiet... Did I really need those fans?

* I'm able to download all my FireFox add-ins without problem on OSX

How is this cross-platform possible? Why isn't more development like this?

I don't mean complex stuff like games... but I mean CRUD apps we're stuck writing / and re-writing all day...

I vaguely remember turning off some 3-letter acronym security "feature" after trying it out for a short period. Me and my computer couldn't be happier.

I never looked back... Just some common sense:

Don't run executable from unknown sites
Beware of Media Player dangerous codec downloading "feature"
Don't open executable attachments, even from your friends

Seriously... When was the last time (if at all) that UAC caught something and alerted you of an imminent danger, which you cancelled the execution of?

PS... Not to say that this is OK for my dad... Probably 50% of his CPU cycles go towards security apps... Such a waste... Maybe when O/Ses grew up, we would have a better security model

I hate iTunes because it's sluggish, but it's the only way to get stuff on my iPod...

And I need to download podcasts for the commute home...

Does anyone know of a service that would take a URL, and disguise the Content-Type or file extension?
