Coffeehouse - Windows Vista RC2 on the way

Microsoft will make the RC2 (5743) available to beta testers Friday. They are speeding up the builds. We are very close to getting our hands on the RTM. I hope I'm one of the selected CPP members

---------------------------------------

Microsoft this Friday will ship the final pre-release version of Windows Vista and, unexpectedly, will name the release as Release Candidate 2 (RC2). Previously, Microsoft had publicly asserted that it would not ship an RC2 milestone release of Windows Vista.
But don't let the name fool you: RC2 is really just a standard interim build of Vista and will not be given out to millions of users as was RC1.
The RC2 build is 5743, and Microsoft is currently testing it internally. As with the previous interim build, 5728, RC2 will be given out to beta testers, MSDN and TechNet subscribers, and a random, limited selection of Consumer Preview Program (CPP) members.

Coffeehouse - Did Microsoft ship another Beta and call it RC1?

I have no problems at all with my Vista installation. It is fast and reliable. My opinion is that RC1 absolutely RC quality. There are always people wining about Microsoft. It is still freaking beta, they expect the results of a RTM build.

"Pricing looks high to me, especially the Ultimate package for $400. That is the cost of a low-end computer."

Damned they are willing to pay more for Photoshop, AutoCAD, CorelDraw, and other expensive software but paying 400 dollar for a Operating system hell no. I just can’t understand this kind of mentality.

ElucidWeb wrote:

Finale, I could only goto a handful of websites, and there didnt seem to be any kind of pattern to the sites that worked and ones that did, at first I thought my internet connection had crapped out on me so I verified with my laptop sitting next to me msn.com
worked on my laptop didnt in Vista, google.com not in vista, microsoft.com oh that worked great, must be cached right? Delete cache, hmm nope still works, try a page i have never ever ever gone to in like 5 months, ok yahoo.com works in vista, WTF is going
on here? Run Network Diagnostics, "No problem found" run it again "You still seem to be having a problem, cannot ping go.microsoft.com"

Reboot, try that all over again, same thing....
Delete device from device manager rerun plug n play same thing...
Disable Windows Firewall...Nope
Turn off Protected Mode in IE7, Nope
Ping Microsoft.com, yep
Ping Go.Microsoft.com, nope
Check LMHost for wierdness, nope empty
Turn off Windows Defender, nope

All that to no avail...*sigh* I'm stumped, that sucks...I was looking for to RC1 all damn day...

Might I mention I had Zero problems in the past with any other Vista Build..

The problem is your NIC driver. You have a Marvell Yukon onboard NIC right? If yes that is the problem.

Try these setting on your NIC.

- FlowControl = Disabled
- Interrupt Modulation = Disabled
- IPv4 Checksum Offload = Disabled
- Jumbo Packet = 1514
- Log Status Messages = Status Messages
- Max IRQ per Sec = 5000
- Network Adress = don't adjust
- Network Adress = don't adjust
- Priority & VLAN = Priority & VLAN disabled
- Receive Buffers = 50
- Speed & Duplex = Auto Negotiation
- TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4) = Tx & Rx enabled
- TCP Checksum Offload (IPv6) = disabled
- Transmit Buffers = 50
- UDP Checksum Offload (IPv4) = Tx & Rx enabled
- UDP Checksum Offload (IPv6) = disabled
- Wake from Shutdown = disabled
- Wake up Capabalities = Magic Packet & Pattern

If this is not the solution than download the following driver and andjust the parameters like above. Happy RC1
