  • Anyone using SSD for development work only?

I have a 300+ project solution that we benchmarked on SSD and spinning rust.  SSD saved us about 10 seconds of a 200 second compile. The bottle neck in our solution was the Silverlight projects, nothing we could do could make them compile faster!  Even tried RAM disks after that and the compile time didn't drop noticeably.  This was on a top of the range i7 with buckets of RAM and SSD for OS.

The biggest win for us though was in opening solution and source control operations, made a real difference in usability there.

  • E3 Smackdown

The thing I noticed watching the twitter stream during the live event, was the utter dismay at the games being shown in the Sony keynote, the cry for no-existent exclusives, then all that was forgotten in the blink of an eye.

  • XBOX - The summary

I have a two year old Samsung TV, the one that runs the old smart TV, the one they abandoned 6 months after I brought the TV. There is no way I'm replacing the screen, and the only functional app on it is BBC iPlayer, don't even get me started on the p.o.s. youtube app! So I use my xbox360, I get a much better experience than I ever did with the TV, if I have to turn on a few extra boxes, so be it, it's not an end of the world hardship to me, and I'd guess that the Xbox One is going to use HDMI-CEC which will allow it to turn the TV on, turn my cable box on and change the channel in the cable box, all without me having to pick up a single control.

  • Telescreen 720

If it notices I've fallen asleep on the couch and pauses the movie I'm watching or spins up the DVR and records the end of the live TV program I was watching, I'd be interested.

  • 24 hours to Xbox 3

300,000 servers running XBOX live, that's quite a few!

  • 24 hours to Xbox 3

Revealing Xbox... buffering.... argh!!!! Smiley Seems coming of the live feed fixed it for me so I'm about three minutes behind.

  • 24 hours to Xbox 3

Someone needs to throw more bandwidth at that ASAP!!

  • What would you choose?

What browser is used on the XP machines?  Can Chrome be mandated for accessing this app from XP?

  • Best Microsoft commercial evar!

In the minute it took to watch the add, there were 30 new comments.  I think it's have just the effect desired.

  • Can someone PLEASE tell me why Windows file operations are still messed up?

@cbae: Pretty sure in 8 it's also check file access, in use, read only etc., so it can pop the 'Retry/Skip' dialog before it starts to delete rather than pausing midway through,
