According to Seattle PI Microsoft has been judged in Texas to not sell Word anymore in the United States because of a patent infringement. What's this going to imply for other applications with XML file formats?

Saw a thread about the PDC in October, so now 1.5 months before start I'm daring to start a WinHEC thread :)

I'm going to arrive Monday 14th in LA, staying in the Sheraton Down Town, and returning Sunday afternoon the 20th back to the Netherlands.

AFAIK I'm the only one of my company who's going, probably meeting Steven Bink who's also supposed to be going...

So anyone else going there as well?
And what's worth viewing there in LA after the conference?

Is it so hard to write an audio driver for the Audigy sound cards that Creative has written an entire hardware abstraction layer for Vista to support multi-channel support in games?

Larry Osterman, are the reasons on the Creative Alchemy Website true? It cannot be that by developing an almost realtime audio layer you would cause such a big problem for Creative and games studio's?

Now that there are new XP/2003 Remote Desktop clients, can we also expect an update for the PocketPC?
Maybe one with a full screen option for 640x480 screens, more than 256 colors and perhaps scaling or virtual desktop size?

I'm currently trying out a tools from www.vijay555.com that makes the remote desktop application full screen. It works, but still it's 256 colors...

Sorry to complain, but the Connect site is a disaster. Firstly MSDN was first to put online the files, secondly the links don't work, and descriptions are full of typo's, and the one that does work (IE7 for XP) is a corrupt file.

Seems strange that Microsoft would start this beta with such an impression on their testers.

Any Channel9'ers present at this years WinHec or Driver DevCon? I'm attending the Driver Devcon. Maybe we can arrange a C9 gathering?

Maybe we can organize something on Tuesday at 9pm after the reception?

Sunday and Monday is no option for me as I'm one of the lucky 64 to get a VIP treatment for those two days :P

Maybe a little bit early, but are there any Channel9'ers attending the Driver DevCon or the WinHec this year or happen to be around Seattle at 25th 'till the 28th of april?

Would be cool to grab something to drink in the evening and meet the faces behind the avatars and have a (little late) toast on the 1st anniversary ;)

It's my first time in Seattle so input on night life and suitable locations are welcome.

Hi

I was wondering why I didn't get mail forwards from GMail to my hotmail account. So then I used my work email account as forward mail adress, and presto, within a minute I got a forward of the mail sent to gmail.

Is this happening to everyone?

I'm still wondering how it can still be that we get mail messages containing virusses.

When for example using an Hotel wifi hotspot, you get redirected to the credentials/credit card page until you made your account and paid.
What if providers would do the same for connections that appear to be broadcasting virusses. Then they could close all port trafic coming from that connection and redirect http trafic to a virus removal tool site, maybe even pointing out the identified virus and the removal tool for it.

A lot of people simply are not aware that things are wrong on their system, this should change that.

What other mothods already exist or what are your ideas/opinions? (apart from always installing anti-virus and firewall software of course ;-) )

Can someone verify that in SP2 you can only change the driver signing options to Ingore or Block through the local security policy editor and not through the dialog in System Properties?

Seems that it only occurs in a slipstream situation where XP is installed allready with SP2.

Appearantly mr. Ballmer told at a Gartner meeting in Florida that Longhorn development is back on schedule and will produce a beta on 16th of februari 2005, and both Longhron and Office 12 are scheduled to be released on 22th of may 2006...
Is this info verifyable?

Would be great if they are allready able to shave half a year off the earlier mentioned release date of 31th of december 2006.

I just saw Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 refresh with Team System on MSDN. Download is going slow but steadily. I'm looking forward to try out the test-driven development component. Will it be hard to figure it out? Is there a good tutorial available yet?

He risks 5 years of jail. He wanted to force the respect of fellow students.

Hi everyone

Is there a way to enable the autorun.inf functionality for USB memory drives on both Windows 2000 and XP? Seems that the NoDriveTypeAutorun key is not sufficient to enable it for USB Volume Drives...

So I would like to insert a memory drive and expect the same AutoPlay result as with a CD-Rom.

Any hints?
