For some reason when I select an image to be my new avatar and then go to 'update', the picture doesn't actually change. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'd like to change my pic because it shows me with my ex-girlfriend who I split up with in December last year!

Gah - tables? They should only be used for data and never for layout. If you want stuff for layout then use divs and spans.

Tables should only be used for data - nothing else.

Use

's for layout, for text and CSS for styling.

That's what the specifications say. You should always follow the W3C guidelines.

I'm not sure of the performance improvements, but the fact that x64 refers to the OS is a bit of a pain. I wanted to try out MONAD as I enjoy shell scripting with Bash on Linux, so it would have been interesting to make comparisons.

Does the x64 version of MONAD on beta.microsoft.com refer to the processor architecture or the version of Windows XP? I have a 64 bit processor with a 32 bit OS.

I've had it on my laptop's hard drive for ages, but I've never used it because I can't think of any advantages it has over other products. You could always create an interface for your DB using C#, ADO.NET and the Npgsql library. However, if your company says InfoPath is the only option, I guess you'll have to work with it.

It's good to see that they still have a 'Classic View' option in the Control Panel. I've never liked the 'Modern View' for it. I also like some of the transparency features on the window borders. I wonder how much of the processor and memory this will take up though. I presume there will be an option to turn that off if the computer only meets the minimum spec.

That's exactly the same situation I have with the family PC and my laptop. The only difference is that with my laptop I decided to wipe the HD and put XP Pro and Slackware 10 on it.

Having a sticker on the back of the system is ok, but that only really works if you have an XP disc! The fact that he had to burn his own recovery DVD is absolutely shocking. All PCs should come with a disc(s) that have the default OS on it.

Another annoying thing I find is that the activation keys have a limit to the number of activations you do. What if you've had serious problems and you go over the limit? You're stuffed, unless you can obtain a new key from somewhere.

I went to an MS event called Gen '05 a few months ago and I got an absolute ton of freebies - a keyring, pen, MS product playing cards, book vouchers and a few other things. The most unusual thing I got was a T-Shirt which was cube-shaped. That reminds me, I still have to add water to it and stir so I can wear it!
