Tech Off - Clustering and Mirroring

I was listening to a radio station on dot net, caledl .Net Rocks.

There was a guy who wrote in an email about a problem about Clustering and Mirroring with large databases.

I sounded quite interesting.

Anyways, the guy was asking if someone from Microsoft could answer the problem / issue.

It sounds quite interesting and is in the 6th to 10th minute of the show.

It's a great radio station (I think). It's www.dotnetrocks.com

The show will be put into the archives as of this Monday, and the problem may be resolved by next weeks show, i.e. +this+ (19th Febuary) Monday.

So it would be interesting to see what happened.

I don't know if this is the right answer. But in VB you can do a method called LoadFile(filename), if that is any help.

I've just got a microphone for the computer and have been using the sound recorder that comes with XP, but it only records 60 seconds of sound at one time.

Can anyone recommend a software package I could use to record sound for longer periods of time ?

I only have VB 2005 Express Edition.

IDE Macros aren't on it ?

Its a little over the top here but I'm just trying to get across a basic principle. That you could have more than just tabs as formatting.
And you could specify your own formating rules. And perhaps have different formatting rule (auto-formatting) for say, Events, Subs, Functions, For, While, etc.

Does that make sense ?

You can do all that with IDE Macros.

Ok thanks, can I do it in the VB editor ? Can I have the Macros working in the VB editor ?

If in the VB editor I write.

Try
Me.Richtextbox.Loadfile("thefile")
Catch ex as Exception
Msgbox ex.message
End Try

Then if formatting is on, "pritty formatting" the editor in Visual Studio writes :

Try
    Me.Richtextbox.Loadfile("thefile")
Catch ex as Exception
    Msgbox ex.message
End Try

And puts in colours too, Ok?

So you couldn't change the font name, without killing the Font or Breaking the object. Putting in the new font name and "putting it back together".

Changing just the font name would be like organ transplant.

Not good.

I was trying to create a block of code that represented a try- catch statement, that was more visual than tab formatting of code.

I kind of hoped I could write formatting "rules" into an editor, so that it would auto-matically format code in a way that was not just tabbing.

I tried to find out if I could do this in the VB editor. But I couldn't work out how.

In Vb can anyone help with how to create a form that has a clock in it. So I can use it to tell the time.

Do I need to create a thread when the form loads ?

Or is there a clock obect with a tick event that I can use ?
Is this the right approach ?

aFont = New Font (created from font "world") with attibutes ("font-type","size,"style")

a New font is born.

-> then assigned to RichTextBox.

I think that i get it.

a font is an object, a non-divisable object.

so you can't change the name of the font, you have to change the font, by creating a New font.

a bit confused now.

i understand that I could in theory,

*set* the font name.

and that doing so I would have to , inform the r.t.b to update itself.

I just don't really, (or am trying to) understand *why* i have to do it that way [ first message ] .

I seem right to do it that way.
