Ping 177: Female CFO, Barnes & Noble, Facebook App, Working at Microsoft
May 14, 2013 at 3:54 PMHello again. Just to clarify, Facebook made Microsoft pull those apps but developers are able to rebrand their apps and resubmit them, which is what people like JDB Pocketware are doing. The apps will get to the Store again if the developers rebrand them in a way that doesn't infringe on Facebook's ToS.
I don't really like to think about people's gender in regards to their body of work but if you think about it there's now Julie Larsen-Green, Tami Reller, and the new CFO sitting in very powerful positions within Microsoft, unlike some other companies. And of course, our very own Laura Foy.
I say cheers to them.
Great show P&L. See you next week.
Ping 176: Windows Phone goes mainstream, Best ad ever, Facebook Beta app, MS exec makes a difference
May 09, 2013 at 12:37 AMRecently I debate almost daily with my friends about this. but it gets really boring really fast so I now just do a "smoked by Windows Phone"-type thing. Then I just do like the great ones, drop the mic and walk off.
I try to be kind through it all though, they've suffered enough. But seriously, everybody is entitled to use and like whatever it is they want. I just love these thing so I want them to do it too but I certainly won't fight them over it. Some people really get worked up.
Ping 175: Wp app for Droids, Forbes Wifi, Next Xbox, Bing Offers
Apr 30, 2013 at 8:29 PMI've always been a tech enthusiast but not a real gamer. But with all the Xbox hoopla I'm incredibly excited about whatever the next Xbox might bring to the table. For the first time. There's controversy around the Always-On thing but we still don't know what that even means. So I refuse to freak out over it.
About the Android app, I've forced all my friends to install it with somewhat mixed to good results but overall I think is not a terrible idea because we need all the exposure we can get. Now that Laura says so, I shall make them watch Hot Apps, and they shall like it.
Much Love!
Ping 173: IllumiShare, Worldwide Telescope, Play to Earn on Xbox, Developer Challenge to Down Under
Apr 04, 2013 at 5:11 PMAlso, a little suggestion. I watch the show on the Windows 8 app and there's no way to comment from there. If someone could pass that piece of feedback along I'd be forever grateful.
Ping 173: IllumiShare, Worldwide Telescope, Play to Earn on Xbox, Developer Challenge to Down Under
Apr 04, 2013 at 5:10 PMIn Latin America Tic-Tac-Toe is called "Gato" which actually translates to Cat. And now I'm wondering why that is,
I just got to say that IllumiShare looks awesome. It will be a great way to cheat at poker games.
But seriously, this is really what technology is meant to be.
On the paying developers thing, I think that any form of incentive is great and honestly, with more that 12000+ apps, you will always find crap of sorts. But an incentive is just a way to inspire and to attract developers, it won't make anyone make an app for the sake of it, I don't think.
Ping 153: Classic Games on IE, new wedge mouse, Games on Surface, More Windows Phones
Sep 08, 2012 at 10:04 PM@masukuma:Is not a random video. It's a video from the official ASUS channel.
But that was hilarious... I love this dude's videos.... but I don't think I've ever pronounced 'Nebuchadnezzar'.
Ping 153: Classic Games on IE, new wedge mouse, Games on Surface, More Windows Phones
Sep 05, 2012 at 4:08 PMI'm glad I'm quite possibly your favorite person, you are mine as well. maybe except for Richard Simmons, because I mean... who desn't like Richard Simmons??? bwahaha. BTW I love how you both try to figure out my name... Good luck!
Here's an official video of how to pronounce ASUS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjjoGtXV6pY.
Then ATIV, rhymes with "Aleve".I'm pretty sure.
Another great show, much love!
P.S. I must figure out how to make my comments shorter, it's a sickness really. maybe by not adding a P.S. to them... ohhh the irony.
Ping 152: Microsoft's new logo, Kinect price drop, Xbox covers the election, New Windows Phones
Aug 28, 2012 at 9:50 PM@IRB: I can confirm the Lumia DOES ring/vibrate no matter which side its facing... and you can flip it over to silence it, just as you would expect. You wont miss any calls for having the Lumia facing down.
I've tested this on both the 800 and the 900
Ping 152: Microsoft's new logo, Kinect price drop, Xbox covers the election, New Windows Phones
Aug 28, 2012 at 9:49 PMI like the new logo, it seems simple yet iconic and it resembles that of the Microsoft Store, which can't be a coincidence. Also, the "f" and the "t" still touch each other like in the old logo, so it's slightly modified from regular Segoe.
BTW everyone pronounces Segoe as Laura did, so I'd assume LAURA IS RIGHT. Paul always chooses the most random pronunciations for every word.
Actually, according to some people (incluiding Paul Thurrott) the red is Windows Phone and the yellow is Office, although the new Office 2013 has a dark-orange logo so... we really don't know. But the new Windows Phone logo IS red.
Much Love!
Ping 149: The Outlook is good, body controlled PC's, Win8 RTM, Paid apps
Aug 09, 2012 at 2:48 PM@Roger: Hello Roger, I believe that you are not correct when you say that Ping! does not have an identity.
It's supposed to be a laid-back, nonchalant show that discusses the headliners of Microsoft news for the week. It's not supposed to be super technical or incredibly detailed.
BTW you keep watching it because it's fun... that's the main reason I think!
Much Love!
