[Escape Key Event Bug (C#)?]

OKay, quick question.

Make a windows forms app, in C#. Add a ToolStrip, in the tool strip create a textbox. Now here is the problem. Put the breakpoint on the event KeyPress or any other key event.

Run it, Press Escape key. No event is triggered.

Now the Escape key remove the focus from the textbox (you dont see the cursor inside the box). I had some time yesterday and I started playing with it. I made a personalmessage scroller tied to a timer. it works, but only for 1 cycle. then it stops. I dont know why. maybe its server end problem?

Anyways. There are missing API's that are much needed.

1) I want to see an api that allow me to enumerate all my list (if i want to make a global message to all my friendns in my list)

2) I want an api that allows me to know if my Window is opened. So if someone opens my window (dbl click on my name) I want an event that gets trigered so I can say " Hi greetings or something like that"

3) Important. There is the initilizer code of the addin, but I want an event that allows me to control how the addin is started. So when Messenger's "Turn On 'my addin'" is checked I get an even in code and I then do what ever. So tie the checked event with an event that gets triggered in the Addin object. Add-in_Activated, Add-in_Deactivated.

3) Allow messenger , when I remove the add in, to remove the dll from memory (unload it) so when I do a rebuild I dont have to restart messenger again.

4) Add APi that allows you to edit the font properties of the treeview items so we can change font and things like that. (this should be global in messenger, but that is for later builds I suppose as the Mesenger team sees fit). A display name color would be cool.

5) API that allow you to detect as an event a change in PersonalMessage and Friendly name changes (Event to signal a change in the display name or display picture or personal message)

6) A way to block and unblock contacts in code. also remove or add contacts in code.

7) I cant really really debug my add-in. I get an error message when I attach debugger to messenger. How to debug my add-in in an easy way using VS2005?

I will add more later, but for the PersonalMessage Scroller add-in , it works for 1 cycle and then stops as if its not listening for the timer elapsed event. Maybe its some bug I overlooked but I will review that later.

Thanks.

in reply to MSN Messenger 8 Add-Ins C#

<evnet:views>9543</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/216382/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext> Hi guys, any one tried to make an Msn messenger 8 addin?
"U.S. citizens suspected of terror ties might be detained indefinitely and barred from access to civilian courts under legislation proposed by the Bush administration, say legal experts reviewing an early version of the bill." -Article

Dubya's Team 'w' Fascists, have been busy since the SCOTUS slapped them down a couple weeks ago. Here is what these neocon Fascists have come up with to do an 'end around' that decision Supreme Court and our Constitution!
You know that Constitution Dubya thinks is just a
....... 'Goddamned piece of paper'!:|

Bush in effect is saying to all : Welcome to my AmeriKKKa !!!

Columbia looks more law following country than what Bush wants to turn America into. This is insane and its really really sad.

How many in the USA are afraid to speak their mind? How many are actually afraid of this Big-Brother government?

One of the reasons I don't want to buy new computers or use software that is new, is because I am becoming paranoid. With the NSA spying on people without Judge order or without valid cause, I more and more begin to think that MS and Google and others gave up to Governmental pressures to aid the government into breaching people's privacy without the "Knowing" of the people.

How do we know if new processors or motherboards or keyboards, don't have these hard-ware keyloggers that send out every thing to some server farm in Area 52? or that new software has zombies on the background where the user does not see them or detect them because they are well hidden, and are used to allow governments back-doors into our machines?

I mean in this day and age where the constitution is meaningless as far as Pres. Bush is concerned, how can we protect our privacy? How is MS recognizing the problem and how is MS helping the customers become more secure and more private such that Big-Brother will not be able to prey on our private lives? I said it before I am paranoid, because America is becoming a fascist/Gestapo/police/state. My grandfathers ran away from police states, and came to America because it was the free country every one wished for, because you could simply speak your mind without being scared for your life. Now America is turning into a police state where to survive you have to agree with everything Bush says or wants , or you would be considered a "Terrorist supporter".

If the Law is being broken by the President, then the people have to take the enforcement of the law into their hands, and protect their privacy online-or offline, with ever new ways so that the spirit that made the laws of the USA are never broken because a corrupt president was installed against the will of the people by a court order.

I think it would be very interesting if Channel9 would make a video/interview with MS' privacy team and crypto team, so as to tell the customers of MS what it is doing to protect us from spying eyes of Big-Brother.

PS: some here might say that I am paranoid to the extreme. But although I am, I don't think , in light of these new illegal/immoral laws, that this paranoia is without just cause. I feel I am living inside a Hollywood movie playing a Na-Zi nightmare. That is why I want to know what MS is doing to protect our privacy from Bigbrother like agencies that have no respect for the spirit or the print of our laws as stated in the Constitution of the USA.

My 2 Cents.

in reply to Is America Turning into AmeriKKKa?

<evnet:views>321</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/216374/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Bush submits new terror detainee bill

Lebanese civilians have been under the constant attack of the state of Israel for several days. The State of Israel, in disregard to international law and the Geneva Convention, is launching a maritime and air siege targeting the entire population of the country. [Bush's Assault on Freedom: What's To Stop Him?]

Another excellent piece on legal ramifications of the recent SC 5-3 ruling against our quasi-emperor Bush by a former Reagan republican, Paul Craig Roberts.....

Paul Craig Roberts

07/03/06 "Lew Rockwell" -- -- On June 29, the U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-3 decision ruled that President Bush's effort to railroad tortured Guantanamo Bay detainees in kangaroo courts "violates both U.S. law and the Geneva Conventions."

Better late than never, but it sure took a long time for the checks and balances to call a halt to the illegal and unconstitutional behavior of the executive.

The Legal Times quotes David Remes, a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling: "At the broadest level, the Court has rejected the basic legal theory of the Bush administration since 9/11 – that the president has the inherent power to do whatever he wants in the name of fighting terrorism without accountability to Congress or the courts."

Perhaps the Court's ruling has more far-reaching implications. In finding Bush in violation of the Geneva Conventions, the ruling may have created a prima facie case for charges to be filed against Bush as a war criminal.

Many readers have concluded that Bush assumed the war criminal's mantle when he illegally invaded Iraq under false pretenses. The U.S. itself established the Nuremberg standard that it is a war crime to launch a war of aggression. This was the charge that the chief U.S. prosecutor brought against German leaders at the Nuremberg trials.

The importance of the Supreme Court's decision, however, is that a legal decision by America's highest court has ruled Bush to be in violation of the Geneva Conventions.

There are many reasons to impeach Bush. His flagrant disregard for international law, U.S. civil liberties, the separation of powers, public opinion, and human rights associate Bush with the worst tyrants of the 20th century. It is true that Bush has not yet been able to subvert all the institutions that constrain his executive power, but he and his band of Federalist Society lawyers have been working around the clock to eliminate the constraints that the U.S. Constitution and international law place on executive power.

Republicans are "outraged" that "liberal judges" have prevented Bush from "protecting us from terrorists." In the U.S. Senate, Majority Leader Bill Frist said that Republicans will propose legislation to enable Bush to get around the Supreme Court's decision. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) already had a bill ready. What sense does it make to talk about "liberal opposition" when liberal Republicans like Specter are falling all over themselves to kowtow to Bush?

Americans are going to have to decide which is the greater threat: terrorists, or the Republican Party's determination to shred American civil liberties and the separation of powers in the name of executive power and the "war on terror."

The rest of the world has already reached a decision. A Harris Poll recently conducted for the Financial Times found that the populations of our European allies – Britain, France, Italy, and Spain – view the United States as the greatest threat to global stability.

A Pew Foundation survey released the same week found that 60 percent of the British believe that Bush has made the world less safe and that 79 percent of the Spanish oppose Bush's war on terror.

Republicans and conservatives equate civil liberties with homosexual marriage, abortion, racial quotas, flag burning, banning of school prayer, and crime resulting from a lax punishment of criminals. This is partly the fault of the ACLU and left-wingers, who go to extremes to make a point. But it is also the fault of conservatives, who believe that their government is incapable of evil deeds.

In their dangerous and ill-founded belief, conservatives are in total opposition to the Founding Fathers, who went to the trouble of writing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in order to protect us from our government. Most conservatives believe that they do not need constitutional protections, because they "are not doing anything wrong." Conservatives have come to this absurd conclusion despite the Republicans' decision to sell out the Bill of Rights for the sake of temporary power.

A number of important books have recently been published decrying America's decaying virtue. In Lawless World, the distinguished British jurist, Philippe Sands, documents the destruction by George Bush and Tony Blair of the system of international law put in place by Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. In The Peace of Illusions, Christopher Layne documents the American drive for global hegemony that threatens the world with war and destruction. Americans are enjoying a sense of power with little appreciation of where it is leading them.

Congress has collapsed in the face of Bush's refusal to abide by statutory law and his "signing statements," by which Bush asserts his independence of U.S. law. Bush has done what he can to turn the Supreme Court into a rubber stamp of his unaccountable power by placing John Roberts and Samuel Alito on the bench. Though much diminished by these appointments, the Court found the strength to rise up in opposition to Bush's budding tyranny.

Amazingly, on the very same day in England, where our individual rights originated, the High Court struck down Tony Blair's "anti-terrorism" laws as illegal breaches of the human rights of suspects. As with the Bush regime, the Blair regime tried to justify its illegality on the grounds of "protecting the public," but a far larger percentage of the British population than the American understands that the erosion of civil liberty is a greater threat to their safety than terrorists.

Thus, in the two lands most associated with civil liberties, courts have struck down the tyrannical acts of the corrupt executive. Perhaps the fact that courts have reaffirmed the rule of law will give hope and renewed strength to the friends of liberty to withstand the assaults on freedom that are the hallmarks of the Bush and Blair regimes. On the other hand, the two tyrants might ignore the courts as they have statutory law.

What's to stop them?

Dr. Roberts is Chairman of the Institute for Political Economy and Research Fellow at the Independent Institute. He is a former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, former contributing editor for National Review, and was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration. He is the co-author of The Tyranny of Good Intentions.

<img src="http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/2171/220gwshark09hd.gif" />

in reply to Bush's Assault on Freedom: What's To Stop Him?

<evnet:views>5439</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/206931/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>

</evnet:previewtext>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/206931/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Re: Bush's Assault on Freedom: What's To Stop Him? The problem is this. When I am playing music on say realplayer One, the sound keeps stuttering, where the buffers seem not to be refreshed with new sound bits, (looping on small sound bit of the music). This only happens when the computer is multi-tasking, like browsing or loading a website in FireFox, especially heavy one like abc.com or cnn.com.

I have updated Realtek drivers, and they are current, but I dont know why this is happening? Its as if the system is low on resources but I am not doing any processor intensive work. This only happens when loading a page on FireFox or loading Visual Studio or something like that.

What would be causing the sound to stutter like that (dada dada dada dada dub) or something along that in XP?

I have Kaspersky Antivirus, and Outpost Firewall Pro. As well as , Messenger Live 8.0. [Puzzle one-time pads in Cryptography.]

I was listening the other day to Steve Gibson with Leo Laporte's Security Now podcast. They explain the basis of cryptography and they talked about the one-time pads.

One problem with the one-time pads was that , though its unbreakable, you had to send the pad to the recipient in a secure way, and this is its weak point.

So one of the listeners during a Question and Answer session, suggested the following.

You have a box, that you put your message in, and you lock it with your lock (your one time pad) and send it to the recipient. The recipient, adds their lock to the box (with their one-time pad) and hence you get a doubly locked (encrypted). This doubly locked box goes back to the sender, and the sender then unlocks (decrypt it with their one-time pad), and sends it back to the recipient, who then unlock his lock (decrypt the message using their one-time pad) and so the recipient gets their own plain text message.

This way no one time pads (locks) are exchanged. Since one time pads are mathematically impossible to break due to maximum degree of entropy (disorder or randomness) it seems this way is an virtually impossible way to break it.

An observer would just see encrypted messages going back and forth. However, such a scheme would be vulnerable to cryptanalysis, since the 3rd party would see the messages before recipient encrypts it and after, so they can get the recipient's one time pad. and also for the sender.

Its all explained in the grc episode 36. But now, I was woundering, what if one does all the above under ssl or under RC4 with long keys, would this not be a perfect crypto-system that no one really can break with in reasonable time?

Secondly, what if the the observer (3rd part) get the one-time pad of the recipient or the sender by observing the messages before and after recipient encrypt it and before and after sender decrypt it? its a one-time pad, they cant use it to decrypt future messages but they can decrypt the current message they observed , but with alot of effort.

here is the link to the episodes, and give your thoughts

in reply to Puzzle one-time pads in Cryptography.

<evnet:views>4969</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/205148/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>I was listening the other day to Steve Gibson with Leo Laporte's Security Now podcast. The recipient, adds their lock to the box (with their one-time…</evnet:previewtext>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/205148/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>
