I do not want a full screen experience to launch applications.
This was my worry before they released the CP and it was confirmed after trying the CP out.
I'm happy for the Start Menu to die, rarely use it, and I do understand that my cheese needs to be moved for progress to happen.
But.... in Win7 my standard MO to launch less popular apps/get to a setting is to hit the Windows key & start typing. Now I have to hit Win+Q and I get a face full of Metro. At work I'd get two big screens of Metro in my face every time I do this. Not good.
I also struggled to figure out how to shut the thing down! I had to Google it. Couldn't figure it out. Was almost tempted to do a "shutdown -s -t 01" at the command line. Maybe an issue my mum & dad would not struggle with as they prefer using a finger and a physical button. And maybe we'll be letting Win8 just run & run.
Am wondering whether anyone can recommend a better way of launching apps from the keyboard in 'classic' desktop mode?
Oh and, for a laugh, I recommend installing Win8 in a VM running on VMWare Fusion and hitting the Win+Q search-an-app shortcut
